Baby, we was makin' straight A's
But we was stuck in a dumb daze
Don't take much to memorize your life
I feel like I been hypnotisized.

And then, that magic man, he come to town
Whoo-ee! He done spun my head around
Said, "Recess is in session,
"Two and two make five!"
And now baby, oh, I'm alive...
Oh yeah! Ah, I'm alive!

And if you wanna be the teacher's pet,
Well baby, you just better forget it...
Rock got no reason, rock got no rhyme...
You better get me to school on time...

[Solo]

Oh, you know I was better on a roll,
Got good grades, but got no soul,
Raise my hand before I can speak my mind,
I been bitin' my tongue too many times!

And then that magic man said to obey (uh-huh)
Do what Magic Man do, not what Magic Man say.
"Now, could I please have the attention of the class?
"Today's assignment...
"Kick some ass!"

And if you wanna be the teacher's pet,
Well baby, you just better forget it...
Rock got no reason, rock got no rhyme...
You better get me to school on time...

"This is my final exam,
"Now y'all know who I am,
"I might not be that perfect son,
"But y'all be rockin' when I'm done!"

[Solo]

General CommentDespite popular belief, Jack Black didn't do the vocals. The Mooney Suzuki didn't get much credit for this song, so here you go. The MS also did the cover of Cole Porter's "Don't Fence Me In" in the Nike hockey Canada commercial, where Markus Naslund hunts for the puck on the streets of Vancouver.

General CommentNo one's talked about this song though, just Mooney Suzuki. I give this movie, and song, all the credit for reviving interest in classic rock, the only true music. Sales of Led Zeppelin cds, AC/DC cds, and Queen cds have skyrocketed thanks to this beast of a movie. Although I would give more credit to the Darkness, a new classic rock band (yes you heard me, new classic rock) for sales of Queen cds since they are a direct homage, this movie has still done wonders for the market. Rock on, Jack Black!
