they would say you were destined for greatness
and I could see it in all the faces
how they loved you, they adored you
but you would sing with a pain they never knew

all the madness was never familiar
and their affection was much too peculiar
to sustain you, to protect you
to ever save you from the pain they never knew

all the stars that fill the sky
they burn out before our eyes

all the sadness you carried inside
you never showed it, it was easy to hide
you'd tell your stories in all their sorrow
you'd take the stage like there was no tomorrow

General Commenti'm not saying it's a song with a pro-gay message, but i knew a boy who was a very devout christian.
everyone looked up to him, he was a worship leader and, on the side, wrote his own songs. come to find out, he was gay and nobody ever knew that's what his songs—the ones he wrote in his own time—were about.
i'm sure the song could be applied to many, many situations.

General CommentTo me the song is about how even the best of us have "demons" inside of us. I come from a family who has a lot of people with mental illness. Even those of us who are fine often deal with issues such as anger and depression. I relate this video to some who looks find to the whole world but is so torn in the inside. However, they take it and turn it into something beautiful - such as a song or poem. The audience is wowed by the beauty of the piece and never realizes where it came from.
