i'm tired
cynical and broken, but wiser
heavy with a sense of resentment
but i used to be so much different
i used to have so much faith
when i started
you knew that i always meant it
i knew i could make a difference
i struggled to be heard
and then finally, one day people started listening
and i knew it
but as soon as it began it was ruined
a slow descent from unique to routine
over and over
"just do it again and this time with feeling"
the spotlight
the focus on the friends and the feelings
that made those stupid songs all worth singing
and don't you say a word
unless you're pretty sure that you want it analyzed
so we drove
for what seemed like days
over roads
and four lane highways
we said all we had to say
and i realized in time that it didn't mean anything

never
not ever again...
not like that
"it's only a matter of time"

General Commentsome times when a song is really good i think to myself. "does it really matter what it's about, just appreciate it for what it is" lol but then i reaslise that to fully do that, appreciate it i mean, you have to understand what it's saying. lol this is a load of crap i know but i think its a shame to have to disect lyrics this way somtimes

General CommentI guess when I heard it, I first thought of them recording their music and such lol, but that's so lame. But in general I see it as meaning something that started out and is meant to be this fun great thing, but in time, it became a chore and lost it's meaning. Beautiful song. Yippe.

General CommentYeah, when I heard this song I figured it was about they guys' days with taking back sunday, and maybe john and shuan left the band because they felt taking back sunday didn't have the same meaning as when they started. I think there's probably more to it than that though.

General CommentPersonally, I think it's John writing about his experience in Taking Back Sunday. How he struggled for years with the band to make it big and when it finally happened, it became routine for him and so he left

General CommentYup, I definately agree that this song is about their experiance with taking back sunday, however it is a bit masked cause its about a resentful relationship, and although I chose to apply it to how things ended with my ex, it is definately about their time spent with TBS. However, I believethey parted on good terms didnt they?

General CommentNah they didn't part on good terms, and I heard when Taking Back Sunday started touring again with Fred and Matt, Adam was talking a bunch of shit about John and Shaun leaving at the shows so I think that's where the "don't say a word unless you're pretty sure you want it analyzed" lines comes in...that's just my opinion but it's a great song nonetheless.

General Commenti know little about it, but i thought the "don't say a word unless you're pretty sure you want it analyzed" was just talking about being in the spotlight, how you can't say anything in public without everyone trying to find hidden meanings in your statements. or something. now that i think about it that doesn't make as much sense, but i'll post anyway.

General Commentjohn and shaun did leave on bad terms but not something that was thier fault i used to love the band but its hard to listen to tell all your friends now without thinking about what happened between them i have a friend that works for victory so thats how i know about this john had a personal problem with adam and shaun left cuz he was on johns side of the problem
honestly tho i think both bands are better off the way they are now straylight run is by far one of the most amazing live shows ive ever seen and taking back sunday as far as i can see will be on thier downward spiral to being nothing soon what more can you do when you are on a label like victory and youve toured with a band like blink 182?!
