"Hold On" as written by and Billie Joe/wright Iii Armstrong....
I was doom riding on top a black horse
Whatever prize there was
I could only observe where the trouble starts
Where does it end?

I cannot be cured
Before it ends
I know life would be different if I held on (held on)
I know I could be something if I held on

Gave her love away
Put it in my pocket when it should've been framed
Oh, it lost its shine
Gotta get this out of my head

Out of my brain
How could it end,
End like this?
How could it end?

I know life would be different had I held on (held on)
I know I could be something had I held on (held on)
I know I could be something if I held on (held on)
I know life would be different if I held on (held on)

Held on
Held on, if I held on
Held on, if I held on
Held on, if I held on

Held on.

General CommentThis song was considered and left off both Ten and Vs. I believe the version on Lost Dogs was an instrumental with the lyrics recorded sometime after 1997, judging on Eddie's voice and the way he growls when he sings certain parts. The version that was from the early years is an acoustic version on the Vs/Vitalogy reissue.

General CommentThis song wasn't on an album? Someone needs to be court-martialled.

General CommentI think you are the one who should be court-martialled. The song is off Lost Dogs, a double cd of b-sides, rarities etc. This is an awesome song, one of my favourites off Lost Dogs, I wish it had made it to Vs. "If you love someone, set them free... if someone loves you, don't fuck up" - Eddie Vedder from the Lost Dogs booklet

General CommentOkay, I probably didn't make that comment clear enough. I meant that the person who decided it shouldn't be on Vs needs to be court-martialled. Although that's a bad idea because it was probably someone in the band.

General CommentThe first verse of this song is probably my favorite lyric, period. Anyone going through a tough time that is apparently endless can relate to it. Great image. Kudos Ed.

General CommentI completely ADORE this song on so many levels.
    1. It sounds amazing, so beautiful both the music and his voice.
    2. I feel this way half of the time
    3. The lyrics are great...
Before I couldn't fight. Now I can and will.
This song means to me what I felt and still feel:
I feel like I'm riding on a black horse without any reins, and I know that my life can be good, but all I need to do is hold on, but it's so hard, sometimes almost impossible.
That horse is life, and I can't control it, but some things I still can if I try, because It's my life.

General CommentActually this was an out take from Ten, they messed up the Lost Dogs liner notes and they incorrectly state that Hold On was an out take from Vs... it's since been corrected on Pearl Jam's website... For proof check out the wikipedia entry for Lost Dogs...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…
