"Walnut Tree" as written by Timothy James Rice-oxley, Tom Chaplin, Richard David Hughes and James Keith Warnock Sanger....
Once there was a great storm,
Pushed my head beneath the waves,
I was gone.

Underneath the walnut tree,
Where you said you'd wait for me,
And I waited a long, long time

I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time.

Why, why do I come here?
Seeking out the memories I hold dear,
'Cause you put your spell on me,
Made me live a memory,
And I'm frozen in just the wrong time.

I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time.

General CommentOnce there was a great storm - something really bad happened in the event of his life
Pushed my head beneath the waves, - he was completely screwed over by this "event"
I was gone. -everything he had was lost

Underneath the walnut tree, - at a certain place
Where you said you'd wait for me, - his girlfriend told me that she'd always be there for him no matter what but she doesn't show up.
And I waited a long, long time- he waits... but she's a no show.

I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time.

    -self explanatory

Why, why do I come here? - he's thinkign as to why did he come, even though he knew she wouldn't come
Seeking out the memories I handed, - he still misses her memories and wants to see her
'Cause you put your spell on me, - he's still completely in love with her, and her not waiting for him breaks his heart.
Made me live a memory, -he only has memories of her and that's what he's living because he doesn't have her anymore.
And im frozen in just the wrong time. -he doesn't want to be here, but he is. He wishes things would be different but they aren't. ANd he wishes he could have his gf..

I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time,
I waited a long, long time.

General CommentI love the idea that this is a ghost story like the movie "The Others", in which a man died in a storm at sea and his ghost has returned to the place of his greatest passion in life - under the Walnut Tree. He continues to wait for his love there, not quite aware that he is a ghost (like Bruce Willis in "Sixth Sense") and since the woman he loves passed from this life centuries ago, he will continue his endless waiting. The song probably doesn't mean that at all, but the piano is appropriately haunting for a ghost story, don't you think?

General Commentfound it through The OC. SETH SO HOT>>but yeah not to proud of their lyrics at least in this song but i do think this band just sets this mello tone that kinda puts you in a trans and some times just lulls you to sleep.

General Commentoc mix 2 has a lot of songs that you can just fall asleep to, but in a good way. like if i can't fall asleep i play this cd and especially this song and it just lulls you to sleep. at first i didn't like keane but they're growing on me! oc mixes are great.

General CommentI agree with the fall asleep thing. Its just so pretty. I think its about a love that was destined to beging, and for some reason it never did. And he waited...and waited

General CommentI love how Keane use metaphores, and brillaint language to describe things.
I agree Kanita 100% on the meaning.
