And if I could
Surely would today
And if I knew
All the words to say
And I could
Wisp you away
To my world

But you might say, it's just the luck of the draw
You might say, that you've done this before
You might feel, that you're ten ft tall some days

And all I ever wanted to be
Will remain right here with you, and me,
And the times we've had, and the times we're yet to see
You and me and the things we've done
And i'm sure it's meant to be

Do you.....Do you.....Do you......Do you agree?

You fought it well
And you fought it all away
What you learn in school,
You learn, you can lose in a day
Many stand for you
They will stand today

But you might say, it's just the luck of the draw
You might say, that you've done this before
You might feel, that you're ten ft tall some days

And all I ever wanted to be
Will remain right here, with you, and me,
And the times we've had, and the times we're yet to see
You and me and the things we've done
And i'm sure it's meant to be

Do you.....Do you.....Do you.....Do you agree? (Repeat 4x)

General CommentgenevieveR is spot on. I was at a show where he told us about the story, but heres the best part:

the wife said to the husband that when she dies she will come back as a butterfly to let him know she was ok. She got sicker and died, and the family was really broken up about it. Then, a week later, the husband was laying on his bed at night unable to go on, and a butterfly came flying through the window, and landed on his chest. And butterflies never come out at night.

..then he started to play it

General CommentI reckon he finds talking to the girl intimidating, not being able to find the right words to say to her. Maybe they were just friends and he wanted to be a bit more.. "And the times we've had and the teams we're yet to see"

Do you agree? [No pun intended! =P]

I always find it hard to interpret Pete Murray's lyrics...
I'm just excited because I worked out the piano part. If anyone wants it...email me.

General Commentthis song is really really sad - i heard from a very reliable source (personally - ididnt just read it or anything) that this song is a story told from the point of view of one of pete's friends , who's wife/gf went through breast cancer and she died. if you understand what i just said its easy to put the lyrics into place.
    Many stand for you
    They will stand today

^ that part gives me imagery of a funeral - where anyone who touched your life will stand for you one last time. But thats just my interpretation of that part.
its kinda talking about the ups and downs of the time together and how the guy wouldnt ever change what has happened ; And all I ever wanted to be
Will remain right here with you, and me,
And the times we've had, and the times we're yet to see
SOrry its long , i hope you get what im on about..

General CommentWomack nearly got it right.

The husband wasn't laying in bed, but he was out with Pete and their friends at the local hotel, and the butterfly flew into the room, inbetween everyone and landed on the husband's shoulder.
