"Underneath" as written by and Zachary Walker/hanson Hanson....
Waking up this morning
Thinking this can't be real
They say there is nothing love can't heal
Why don't you come on down
So you can feel what I feel?

Sitting all alone in this place
Even though we're here face to face
There is nothing gone
But there's something wrong

Can't you see
That I'm stuck here underneath
And you make it hard to breathe?
Take a look around and tell me what you see
You'll find me underneath

I know what to say
But don't know where to begin
I fear I'm losing you beneath my skin
Is there resolution for this pain that I'm in?

Sitting all alone in this place
Even though we're here face to face
There is nothing gone
But there's something wrong

Can't you see
That I'm stuck here underneath
And you make it hard to breathe?
Take a look around and tell me what you see
You'll find me underneath
'Cause you'll find me, whoa, underneath

If only you could feel what I dream
Maybe you could hear what I mean
There is nothing gone

But there's something missing
Can't you see
That I'm stuck here underneath
And you make it hard to breathe?
Take a look around and tell me what you see

You'll find me underneath
You'll find me underneath
Underneath, underneath

General Commentat first i hated this song. then i was listening to it in my car and really listened to the lyrics for the first time. it's probably my favorite song on the cd at this point.

and i really hope this isn't a typical hanson relationship song. i interpret it to be about being in a deep depression and not being able to get out.

"Why don't you come on down so you can feel what I feel." - people don't understand how it feels unless they're there.

"Sitting all alone in this place, even though we're here face to face." - whe you're depressed you tend to always feel alone.

"There is nothing gone but there's something wrong/missing." - most powerful line of all i think. when you're depressed there isn't always a reason you feel that way. you feel like things are good in your life, you have what you need and get what you want on occassion, but nothing makes you happy.

"Is there resolution for this pain that I'm in?" - the pain never ends.

"Can't you see that I'm stuck here underneath." - and the obvious, i'm stuck in this deep depression.

this shows their true song writing ability that they waste on love songs.

General Commenti just like how all the "woah-oh-ah-oh's" are similar to what was going on in MON.... they have deff grown musically, and i see it not only in this song, but in penny and me, and go, and running man, and everythign new. hanson is the origional 3 peice family band, and everyones compairing them to the suckass brothers (jonas) theres no f*cking comparison, and there never will be. hanson is so much more amazing.

General CommentThis song makes me weep. A lot. For me (because I think songs can have different meanings for everyone, no one is wrong), it's about loving someone, and that someone is just not all there for some reason - they're stressed out, or having second thoughts, or whatever. You're longing for them to understand and wondering why you can't have that feeling back. Hmm. I hope that was coherent.

General CommentI completely agree with you. This song makes me weep just because it reflects just about every damn thing in my friendship with someone. It truly is a beautiful song huh? They've really grown with the lyrics and you can tell that they really mean what they are singing. You can totally hear it too

General CommentI think it could be both a relationship song or a depression song.

First could be a relationship song because it could be about having problems with someone you know whether it's a lover, friend or family. Most relationships are complex and this is a good song to compare that to.

This could even mean a relationship with depression. It could be like being alone at home and it's like talking to yourself, having a conversation with your emotions.

And of course, it can also just be about plain depression and how this person is the only one that sees it.

General Commenti think that this song is just about no one understanding what you are going through and just being on a different level/place in the world and people holding you back even though they dont realize it

"sitting all alone in this place even though we're here face to face" just kind of that being in a different place

"If only you could feel what I dream
Maybe you could hear what I mean" just people not understanding what is going on with you and saying they know how you feel when they really have no idea

there are a lot of different ideas and i guess they are all right from the way you are looking at the song!

General Comment"The fear of losing you beneath my skin" is one of the most beautiful lines I've ever heard. I also didn't like this song so much until I saw them perform it on the DVD, and the performance was absolutely haunting and totally got under my skin!

I always interpreted it as two people at the tail end of a relationship, suffocated by it and yet unwilling to let go.

General CommentThis song is way better preformed acoustically, but also good on album. I beleive it to be about a relationship that no longer has that spark. I do see the hints as depression, or at least how it could be interperated that way.

General CommentFor me this song is about falling in love with your bestfriend. He's deeply in love with his lady bestfriend and he just afraid to make a move cause he fears if something goes wrong he will lose their close friendship.
"The fear of losing you beneath my skin"
So he's wating till she understands his feelings for her...
Just what I'm going through right now .. :-(
