Never heard my name called never anyone at all
Never in the right at the heart of every fault
Time to write me off
Demand the antidote to rescue this stranded soul
Castaway the last to know that the dream is gone

Everyday life takes it's toll
When are we going home
Becoming cold

How did we get here and what are we alive for
Give me a reason to murder my idols

Save your faith for the faithless we need it most
Need something to believe in but nothing comes close
Hindsight won't let me sleep at night amputate this foolish pride
Minds eye pickled in cyanide and I can laugh at myself

Everyday life takes it's toll
When are we going home
Everyday life takes it's toll
When are we going home

The deviants will deviate rewrite the rules alleviate
A martyrs meant to mediate messiahs mend the word

Never heard my name called never anyone at all
Never in the right at the heart of every fault
I feel no pulse
Time to write me off
No vital signs
A forced impulse
Among idol minds

Everyday life takes it's toll
When are we going home
Becoming cold

How did we get here and what are we alive for
Give me a reason to murder my idols

Save your faith for the faithless we need it most
Need something to believe in but nothing comes close
Hindsight won't let me sleep at night amputate this foolish pride
Minds eye pickled in cyanide and I can laugh at myself

How did we get here and what are we alive for
Give me a reason to murder my idols
Some heads have got to roll

Everyday life takes it's toll
When are we going home
Everyday life takes it's toll
When are we going home

You made me what I am today
The toll that my life's taken everyday
Don't think I'll ever make it home
Not going home
I won't forget where I came from
Or what you made me
Some heads have got to roll

I think it's about the downside of being a sceptic. So he's found out all the faults in other peoples thoughts and believes, but he can't find the truth he somehow feels he has to get at (hence: Amputate this foolish pride. My tongue pickled in cyanide, I can laugh at myself). He even doubts whether his rationality and skepticism is the right way to go by (hence: Give me a reason to murder my idols & Save your faith for the faithless, we need it most.) He'd like to be convinced of something he could truly believe in, but there isn't anything that can stand up to his standards. He want's a foolproof AND geniusproof religion, one without contradictions and faults and flaws, and someone with a true belief to show him the way and proof it's the right one (Messiahs mend the word), but there's no one around with that ardent and true belief who could show him, as most people just follow sheepishly what they've been told (I feel no pulse, no vital signs. A forced impusle among idle minds) without ever asking the questions that bother him. Although he cannot belief (Need something to believe in but nothing comes close), he is a more religious person than most so-called believers, as he really suffers from his lack of understanding, from having "killed his idols" (Hindsight won't let me sleep at night). But this he has to follow this path (Heads have got to roll) in order to find something that isn't just an illusion... I couldn't disagree more with oKySP. He hasn't grown cold at all, he's boiling with doubt and he BURNS for finding the answers, whereas some people just stop once they think they've found the answers and just shut their mind to any questions that might shake the foundations of their believe. I think this song expresses the pain of a person that's got a strong religious urge, an active searcher for truth, who is on the verge of becoming an agnostic (Don't think I'll ever make it home), but nevertheless doesn't give up his search (I won't forget where I came from). You made me what I am today is his adress to a god he cannot truly believe in (or maybe half-way he does), and all his thinking is 'The toll that my life's taken everyday'. One day, 'Some heads have got to roll' (whether it be his own or that of god / his last remains of belief in him). At the moment the struggle is just too much. These lyrics are so good!

This song is about becoming cold in faith and emotion. It represents that point in people's lives when you relize that life, and faith in it, are just a dream and one day we must all wake from it. 316 means john 3:16 from the bible, talking about beliving in god and having everlasting life, and growing cold towards it. IMO anyway.

To me this song is talking about:

"Everyday life takes it's toll When are we going home?"

how we live our livesand day after day we're getting closer to death, and he's just wondering when we're going back to eternal blackness.

"I feel no pulse, no vital signs. A forced impulse among idle minds"

In reality there's no life. We're all just forcing ourselfs to believe everything we see abd hear because we want SOMETHING to believe

"The toll that my life's taken everyday. Don't think I'll ever make it home."

He doesn't believe there's something there for him when he's gone.

Now so everyone knows tihs is IMO and I'm fairly new to listening to Mushroomhead but I love everything I've heard, and if I'm way off to you then so be it I look at music one way, you look at it your way thats the point of most music so you look at it and get exactly what you want out of it weather it's right or wrong

uhh it's Becoming Cold (216), so i'm not sure where you're getting john 3:16. it was a noble attempt, though.

i saw them this weekend in philly, and they have an old CD named twoonesix.. maybe it was an old band they did? or else it was a really old mushroomhead CD.. i dunno

there are many ways to interpet this but...I think

"In reality there's no life. We're all just forcing ourselfs to believe everything we see abd hear because we want SOMETHING to believe"

is a pretty good explanation of the message of this song. This band has led my life to great changes on my theological views. I am glad, and thank this band for answers to my unasked questions. ...Sometimes you need to know the answer befor you know what questions to ask.

well Two One Six is a current band that jmann benis gravy and skinny are involved in, and (216) is the area code of cleveland (where mushroomhead is from) there have been many discussions about this song's meanings on the official mushroomhead street team (go to mushroomhead.com) and most came up with a reference of mushroomhead missing their home and never forgetting that their cleveland fans made them who they are and they want to return, being on the road so much gets to them (so yea check out those boards, they're pretty awesome)

How did we get here? [how did we get here?] What are we alive for? Give me a reason [give me a reason] to murder my idols

to me this sounds like a question to everyone with faith. "Need something to believe in but nothing comes close" i think he's saying there's so many different religions pushing you to believe what they want you to but their strong enough to know that a persons own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs are sacred to themselves and everyone should believe what they want to without being ridiculed for believing or not believing in what other people want them to

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
