There's a dimmer light in this room tonight.
And you'll be the last one to know when it's off.
So with this dimmer light in my room tonight,
I wonder if we're gonna make it at all.

And there's a brighter sky to this dreadful night.
And you and me are the first to watch it fade.
So with this brighter sky from my room tonight,
I feel, down here, a little more betrayed.

How do I get back to where I was, when you were smiling.
You were smiling.

You were smiling baby.

Now there's a tempt to die under this heartless sky.
We'll bid farewell without an ear to hear me,
A tempt to die, and not put up a fight.
Cause no one ever wanted to end this early.

How do I get back to where I was, when you were smiling.
You were smiling.

You were smiling baby.

So there's that bright light, the one that leaded me here.
The one that's screaming to be noticed.
The one responsible for all of this.
So I'll take this other road, after I get up from my knees.
Because I'm sick of being lied to.
And I'm afraid of where the other one leads.

You were smiling baby.

General CommentI absolutely love this song. Frunt has a good idea of the song...but i sort of interpretit related to my own experience. Brandon is talking about how a Godly relationship took a turn for the worse and they removed God from it... I think the "you were smiling baby" has do with after the relationship was broken off and he tries to think of the good times they used to have. Its almost like he is regretting stopping the relationship...but he knows he has to "take the other road." It is almost like he is blaming the light/God when he says "the one responsible for all of this"....the one that convicted him about the unGodly relationship....maybe im way off but thats what ithink

General Commenti think this song is about how you get in a relationship and everything is awesome cause you include God but as soon as you start to let him go your relationship starts to suck. It almost seems like Brandon is trying to warn us all to keep God in our relationships.

General Commenti love this song. i agree with frunt about the song being somewhat about the priority of god in our life and things trying to distract us from him but i don't understand how the "you were smiling baby' fits into that

General Commentthe only thing that bothers me about this song is the line "the one that leaded me here."
"leaded" isn't a word, "led me here" is the correct way of saying that.

I thought that this song was almost like against God because God in some form could be a bright light and led him to where ever he is. And he is basically blaming God for what happened to him. Also, he states that he was on his knees, like when you praise and worship God you could be on your knees or whatever. So I think that this is practically against God, but I'm not sure it's just a guess.

General Commenti dont even think this is even about God. Iv read an interview with dead poetic, and they say ya know "wer a band of christians not a christian band". i think as christians we would like to think thats what theyr singing about, and its what we try and assume coz they are christians. but this song makes way more sense if he was singing it to a girl. Y would he say "baby" if he was singing it to God. It makes way more sense about a broken relationship with some girl. And i thing thats what this is really about, even tho it would be cool if they were singing about God, its probly just mor realistic to assume theyr not.

General Commentpersonally i think this is a song about a relationship that is failing. It's all falling apart, everythings is being destroyed, and he didn't want it to end there.
The line "how do I get back to where I was, when you were smiling" It's saying, how do i fix this, how do i make this relationship work, i want us to be happy again, i don't want to see all we worked for go down the drain. Man I love this song, it is so incredible
