Hands up give in to modernism.
The re-enactment's closing in.
But we're past that now.
Dip your head in the water.
Hands up and over.
Heads down in shame.
Give in, give in.
Is this the cup that's worth more than me.
Ask what happened to believers.
They will never believe again.
Counted the times that it wasn't true.
They'll never wash your feet again.
When I was born no one counted the fingers and toes.
O'no. O'nothing.

General CommentI think you all are putting it into a small box by saying it's just about religion. I get the feeling the first line pretty much sums it up 'modernism'. It's about a multitude of things; Material possessions, the stupid hierarchy we have & yes religion. I also think the last line is interesting, he might be saying we all are to vain nowadays, but I would disagree with him (sometimes depending on how I feel) becuase back in day (depending on how far you look) people cared more about who you were/what you have rather than today when you're pretty much your own man/woman (well it's like that where I live :))

General CommentI think it's about the uncertainty of religion/god. It sounds like something happened which apparently made them "unbelievers". I don't know. Great song regardless.

General CommentI think it just flat out means. Theyre so many people that have just lost faith in some sort of religon with god. and just plainly given up because, theyve been proved wrong by themselves and other people. And in they bring it passed themselves so many times to make sure its not true, and what they believe in is false. if you dont believe me. Ask what happend to believers. they will never believe again. Counted the times that it wasnt true.

General Commentthis is my favorite song by them..it always come back to this song. i put it in the top 10 songs ever:) its that good. i think the last line before the chorus takes off explains that this song really is about how we have forgotten the value of human life and are now more concerned with material possesions having to do with religion social status and basic happiness nowadays. but then again i have no idea what it actually means. the chorus is talking to the pinnacle figure of whatever the topic is. the pope in religion, corporations with material products...they will never wash your feet again. counted the times it wasnt true. great song!!!!
