"Satisfied Mind" as written by and Red Hayes Jack Rhodes....
How many times have you heard someone say
If I had his money, I do things my way?
But little they know that it's so hard to find
One rich man in ten with a satisfied mind
But money can't buy back your youth when you're old
Or a friend when you're lonely or a love that's grown cold
The wealthiest person is a pauper at times
Compared to the man with a satisfied mind
Once I was winning in fortune and fame
I had all that I dreamed of
To get a start in life's game
Then suddenly it happened
And I lost every dime
But I'm richer by far
With a satisfied mind

General Comment The song is about the true value of material things compared to being true to yourself. If your possessions are keeping you awake at night, sell down to the sleeping point. While I love the Byrds version, like so many of their songs that I have heard a hundred thousand times. It is refreshing too hear other covers go Byrd songs. One in particular was sung by, and played at the young Jeff Buckley's funeral. The original was written and performed by Porter Wagoner.
