"He Was A Friend Of Mine" as written by and Roger Mc Guinn....
He was a friend of mine
He was a friend of mine
His killing had no purpose
No reason, or rhyme
Oh, he was a friend of mine

He was in Dallas town
He was in Dallas town
From a sixth floor window
A gunman shot him down
Oh, he died in Dallas town

He never knew my name
He never knew my name
Though I never met him
I knew him just the same
Oh, he was a friend of mine

Leader of a nation for such a precious time
Oh, he was a friend of mine

General CommentI think its kind of obvious that this song is about the JFK assassanation. I'm pretty sure Dylan had a song titled the same, but I think it had different lyrics. Either way, this is a great song, and even though its about a very sad thing, it still sounds happy.

General CommentYeah, it's about JFK and I've heard Dylan had a song with the same title as well. Grateful Dead do as well, though the lyrics are very different. Cat Power has a song by the same title, and some of the lyrics are very similar, but I think it's kind of a half-cover or something. This is the only song by the Byrds that I really like, mostly because of its topic. It's really good, though.
