"Safe Home" as written by Frank Joseph Bello, Charlie L. Benante, John Robert Bush and Scott Ian Rosenfeld....
I've been down this road once or twice before
Through the open door
I come falling through it
There's a sign post up ahead
Like a watershed
And it opens my eyes
Ways, for me to begin
To be born again
And knowing for the first time
Ways, all so differently
Shine for me to see
The better man that I am

I've been places in my head
Behind me worse than what's ahead
And on my path just like a dream
Takes me from the in between
From out of nowhere you came strong as stone
And now I'll never have to be alone
What it is I know

You have always been my safe home
I walk, I run, I burn out into you
You have always been my safe home
My whole world has moved on

I know what I am and I'll always be
Your reality, is better than I could dream
All my fears turn from black to white
And I'd stand and fight
The whole world for you
Faith, and destiny
I never did believe
My only God is love and
Faith, what I see in you
And I can hold it true
Like a weight in my hand.

General Commentthis song to me is basically summing up life...its like an elderly person relaying on what he did, who he encountered and how he dealt with each of these...however, it relates to someone/thing "You have have always been my safe home" I think that Anthrax have excelled themselves with this song

General CommentWow, the first time I heard this song was about 4 or 5 years ago on a Sattelite Music station at my friends house. I had to DL this as soon as I got home, and proceeded to buy the rest of the CD, which is amazing! This song is one of my all time favorites, gives me chills, the music and guitar are amazing, cant sasy enough about it. The lyrics, they seem pretty straight forward. This song seems like its describing someones passion, inspiration, and or love for someone or somethin, AKA Jesus. Now, I'm not the most holy person, but I have been goin to Catholic schools since I was 7. Anyway, at the beginning, it seems like a person reflecting on their past life, what they did right or wrong, and then all of the sudden:
"There's a sign post up ahead
    Like a watershed
    And it opens my eyes"
-Makes me think of a person that you can trust, can help you out, and its obvious this person (Jesus, God?) is meant to be in your life.
"Ways . . . to be born again
And KNOWING for the first time
    Ways, all so differently
    Shine for me to see
The better man that I am"
-This part seems to emphasise my last idea, this person enlightens them, maybe in a mental, or spiritual sense.
Ways to be born again most likely means to start a new life; have your sins forgiven once you were enlightened to Jesus, or whoever.
"I've been places in my head
Behind me worse than what's ahead"
-So now, this person is thinking about their past, what theyve done or thought that was wrong, and "whats ahead" is saying now that theyve accepted Jesus, or found this new inspiration, their future looks bright.
"And on my path just like a dream
    Takes me from the inbetween"
Now, the person is on the path to Heaven, via their accepting of Christ, and this path leads them between temptations and distractions of the world.
"From out of nowhere you came strong as stone
And now I'll never have to be alone"
-Here, the God appears to them straight forward in a time of dyer need, and will always be there to support them
    "What it is I know
You have always been my safe home
I walk, I run, I burn out into you"
-The person is admitting that Jesus has always been with him, but he was unaware of it, and everything he does, Jesus knows, and he should serve Jesus in turn.(?)
"You have always been my safe home
My whole world has moved on"
Again, Jesus has always been there for them, but since he is aware of this, his life has turned around, and become a new person.
"I know what i am and I'll always be
Your reality, is better than I could dream"
The person is acknowledging their mortality and imperfections, and admitting that only God is perfect.
"All my fears turn from black to white
    And i'd stand and fight
    The whole world for you"
So, now this ties into how Jesus/God helps them understand his fears, which are important or not, and in turn this person is going to serve God and worship him for all that hes done.
    "Faith, and destiny
    I never did believe"
This person never believed in faith or destiny (going to Heaven) before he met God
"My only god is love and
Faith, what I see in you
And I can hold it true
Like a weight in my hand."
-I like this alot because it makes the analogy of object that has no material or physical value (faith) and compares it to a weight, something you can feel and touch. He's saying now that he believes in Jesus, his faith is real, and the mutual love is a product of this faith.
At least, this is how I interpret it.

General CommentWhat I forgot to add in the last time, in the first part, this song reminds me of many TooL songs (Stinkfist, Lateralus, and The Patient) and Pearl Jam songs (Black, Alive, Elderly Woman, Yellow Ledbetter) where the lyrics and music compliment eachother so well that it gives you that tingly feel. Anthrax did amazing on this song, and personally think that the style of this album is WAY better than their stuff from the 80's-mid 90's.

General CommentI've found two possible meanings: One is perhaps the song is be about finding your perfect partner. This person completes you in so many ways and you wonder how you ever lived without them.

Also, it could be about moving on from the death of a loved one and the memory/spirit of them is stronger than the physical being.

Eh, either way, a great song. Crap video though, haha.

General CommentTo the person who went on a biblical rant, I'm sorry to say, but this isn't about Christianity or any God. Actually, I'm not sorry to say it since I'm not religious. It's so true that people believe what they want to believe - it applies to everything, including music, like you did when you referred to this song being about God. It may be so for you because that's what your mind wants to believe, but if you stand back and don't read too far between the lines, all it's really about is someone finding solace in someone (or something) else that has always been there and has rarely let him down when he needs them the most. Most of us have our safe home.. the song is perfectly straight-forward.

Before you consider backlashing and looking further in to something's meaning than need be, consider the part in the lyrics of this AWESOME song where the vocalist sings "My only God is Love". You're an eternal optimist (or incredibly short-sighted) if you truly believe that this is referring to a Jewish/Christian/Islamic God of Abraham. All that means is that if there's one thing he follows and lives by, is addicted to, or idolizes, it's Love. That addictive, more-harm-than-good emotion that can't be explained or cured.

General Commentto animal, I started out by saying "The lyrics, they seem pretty straight forward. This song seems like its describing someones passion, inspiration, and or love for someone or somethin". So that right there kinda negated your first part of the argument. Let me state, im not lashing out at you, i know that seems very heavily jesus / god like, the fact is, I was raised a catholic. recently though, i have come to the standard conclsion that most faiths (method of controlling population, etc)/ beliefs / views on life are very similar. Also, like you and I stated, its about that someone or something that is dear to you, that you feel confortable with. I simply used christianity as an example becuase of its nearly universal expanse. I tried to make it relate to alot of peoples perspective. I'm not describing myself as a die-hard christian, an atheist, perhaps agnostic thinker is appropriate? But anyway, this song is rocking, and i love you last part about it describing love being the main object of the song. To some people, the phrase "God is love" can be taken quite literally, and Jesus is simply a physical representation of this emotion or what not. Towards the end when i started relating this to chirstianity, this was simply because its much more easy to describe it to most people in something as worldly as chirstianity. Please don't assume I am a bible beater, or narrow minded. Although annoying, I respect them because they stick to their faith. Its the narrow minded people that anger me. not much more can relax and entertain me that sittin on the deck, drinking a beer, smokin a cigar and talkin to my close friends about our different views on life. This song, to me, sums up pretty much the "universal religion": something or someone who strives to love others with all their ability, someone or thing to out all your faith in, some one or something to guide you. I know this seems a little off the song topic, but i feel that animal did bring up a valid point, and gave me a further opportunity to explain myself. Thats whats great about this song, i bet many people of many different faiths can relate to it. granted, im sure many thing the music is to "heavy" or "hard core" for inspirational music, they just havent given anthrax a chance.

General CommentI'm gathering it's about someone who makes you feel content & shields you from the cold, hard world. Could be a parent, guardian, spirit or a lover.

General CommentWell to me personally, I can relate to the lyrics of this song.

You see, I just recently moved back to California. I kinda grew up here but moved to Alabama in 7th grade and went through struggles to adapt until I finally did and made a lot of meaningful relationships with people there. IT was a small town, and I grew to like that kind of atmosphere. I have really close family out there, I have friends that I feel like I've known all my life and I was just really loving life.

Well, my mom moved us back here in the middle of my Junior year. I was sad but I didn't think that it was a big deal because I still had friends from before that I contacted a lot while I was in Alabama, so I wasn't too concerned. WEll, I moved out here and started school, and everything just overwhelmed me. The school is literally 5 times bigger than my old, small school. People that I knew from when I lived here before changed a lot (which is understandable given the time period) and most of them dont even remember who I was. My friends out here are okay but I just dont feel close to them anymore. I think that its just because in the time that I was in Alabama, I matured a lot and my old friends from California hadn't. School is harder and my relationships with my teachers aren't as close as they were with my teachers in Alabama. I have my dad's side of the family out here, but they just seem like strangers. I definately do not feel as close to them as I do with my mom's side of the family in Alabama. ITs just a mess, and I am homesick and depressed and I don't like being like that. Im even considering moving back...

How that relates to the song is that I interpret it as being around people that you really love. Im around my mom and sister, but sometime, only having you "immediate" family is not quite enough. It means a lot to me to have other friends and family around you as well. ITs hard switching high schools when your in the middle of your junior year.

Basically, this song is a tribute to those people that you miss and love. People that make you feel like you ARE in your 'Safe Home'. This song just makes me feel like Im back in that small town atmosphere again and just back to the life I used to have. IT reminds me of a simpler state of mind I was in and it makes me happy when I listen to this song. So thats my interpretation...
