La la la la la.
We are just a sexual making me an alcoholic relation.
Words hit much harder than the bullets from a gun,
a shovel to the skull, a stab in the spine.
Be my valentine, you don't have to say much.
This machine is so mature, it's so much your type.

(boy) "You be Betty!"
(girl) "I'll be Betty!"
(boy) "I'll play Joe!"
(girl) "You play Joe!"
We'll crawl out of my window, honey,
in the morning I'm out of my head,
I wish I was sleeping In your hospital bed.
Give me some time to get on your mind.
La la la la la.

Hey, come on down to my world.
The memories enhance the way that you feel.
I wanna get right back down but you're moving so fast,
and I wanna be everywhere twice.

La la la la. La la la la.

And in the morning I'm out of my head,
I wish I was sleeping In your hospital bed
Give me some time to get on your mind.

after a being a bit disappointed with the opening track (ok how would it ever compare to sha sha) this one really helped me get into the cd. just one really good BK song complete with all the fun lyrics to sing along to like all the la la las.

I love this song. I haven't the slightest what it means.

To many people, some of Ben's music is very frustrating. "What's with the lyrics! Butterflies are passive-aggressive?!" Ben writes in what's called a stream of consciousness. Those who have tried to write one (myself included), know that often times what you write makes no sense at all. (Haha. I once wrote in one, "A rose bed of empty promises". WTF?!) See what I mean, it's basically your unconscious talking, and if you're into psych, you'll realize that often times, your unconscious can say some pretty weird crap. I think Beck may be the same way, too. But that's speculation. Ben does this because I've heard him talk about it.

Can I just say that this is possibly the greatest song ever? It is utterly impossible not to love this song. Me and my friends refer to this as "The Fun Song" and we even have a dance to it.....amazing!! the piano freak out before the chorus is the best part and the la la la's are awesome : )

So it's all about escaping from reality and being with someone you want. It's 'running away together'. We'll cast off our real lives, and instead of 'Liz' and 'Ben' "you be Betty, and I'll be Joe, and we'll crawl out my window" and escape our lives and our problems and just be together.

And reality creeps back in, and we can't run away forever. "In the morning I'm out of my head" with love for you, but I can't be there. "I wish i was sleeping in your hospital bed, give me some time to get on your mind!!!" "I wanna get right back down, but you're moving so fast, I want to be everywhere twice." Let's escape forever and just be together.

There's more there that I haven't gotten. I think he hints at her being the reason that they can't escape forever... "she's moving so fast", "this machine is so mature, it's so much your type" but I haven't quite nutted that part out yet.

Another of Ben's flooringly brilliant tunes.

Just a gorgeous song. . . I think Akiata got it, but I still wanted to comment on how awesome this song is.

On a whole, not as good of a CD as Sha Sha, but, really, can he outdo himself?

Although. . . Penny on a Train Track from his upcoming album is pretty darn amazing.

I really enjoy this song. There may be some link to Paul Simons "You can call me Al"

If you'll be my bodyguard I can be your long lost pal I can call you Betty And Betty, when you call me You can call me Al

Same sort of meaning I believe, escape who you are.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
