"Blackout" as written by and Matthew James Bellamy....
Don't kid yourself
And don't fool yourself
This love's too good last
And I'm too old to dream, yeah

Don't grow up too fast
And don't embrace the past
This life's too good to last
And I'm too young to care

Don't kid yourself
And don't fool yourself
This life could be the last
And we're too young to see

General CommentTo me this song's message seems to be "enjoy this while it lasts, cause it won't last long" ("too good to last"). Don't kid yourself, nothing will last forever no matter how good. The singer is at a point where he is too old to dream (won't fool himself into believing this love, or anything else so good, will last forever), and at the same time too young to care (although he understands it won't last long, he doesn't obsess over this). So he has achieved a kind of awakening that allows him to live in the present without growing up too fast and without embracing the past.

General CommentThis song lies in direct connection with Butterflies and Hurricanes in the way that it's the "self doubt" side of everything. It's the desire to right the world again, however, not having the selfcapacity to do so. It speaks to a specific number of people in a realistic way today. Those who follow life as the world gives it to them, instead of taking charge of it, in this postapocalyptical world.

I would refer to this as my personal "fall from grace" song. The kind of song I could picture in a movie of someone committing suicide in really slow motion as it panned to other characters in the story. I don't know that's just me.

General CommentOpenly discuss the consequence of love. Observe the chaos inflicted by it, it's incredible wrath. Something unavoidable.
The lovers, whatever they may be. Feel in such a state of euphoric bliss, they know deep down nothing will last forever. No matter.
But is that reason to give up? no.
I believe the song has an attempt at telling us someones view on life, stages in it.
Our life wont last forever, those we love will die, we all grow up to fast, parts of who we are and were die. We forget about them, and lastly. Holding onto the past, achieves nothing.
I believe that is only a small portion of what these words say to us.
They tumbled the strings with the drums and vocals perfectly to create just the right emotion. The song conveys more than I comprehend.

General CommentUgh, I know that it's fun to project yourself onto a song's meaning, and that's good and all, we all do it constantly, but no, this song is not about relationships in the least bit. Blackout=death. This song is about life and our complete ignorance of what happens after it's over. Live for the moment and realize that all things come to an end. Oh, and awesome live performance indeed.

General CommentSuch a wonderful song. I don't know what this song means. To me personally its about 2 lovers one older and one younger (too old to dream, too young to care) who's relationship is about to end or has ended.
