"Hollywood" as written by and Mirwais Ahmadzai . Madonna....
Everybody comes to Hollywood
They wanna make it in the neighborhood
They like the smell of it in Hollywood
How could it hurt you when it looks so good

Shine your light now
This time it's gotta be good
You get it right now
Yeah
'Cause you're in Hollywood

There's something in the air in Hollywood
The sun is shining like you knew it would
You're riding in your car in Hollywood
You got the top down and it feels so good

Everybody comes to Hollywood
They wanna make it in the neighborhood
They like the smell of it in Hollywood
How could it hurt you when it looks so good

I lost my memory in Hollywood
I've had a million visions
Bad and good
There's something in the air in Hollywood
I tried to leave it but I never could

Shine your light now
This time it's gotta be good
You get it right now
Yeah
'Cause you're in Hollywood

There's something in the air in Hollywood
I've lost my reputation
Bad and good
You're riding in your car in Hollywood
You got the top down and it feels so good

Music stations always play the same songs
I'm bored with the concept of right and wrong

Everybody comes to Hollywood
They wanna make it in the neighborhood
They like the smell of it in Hollywood
How could it hurt you when it looks so good

Shine your light now
This time it's gotta be good
You get it right now
Yeah
'Cause you're in Hollywood

'Cause you're in Hollywood
'Cause you're in Hollywood
In Hollywood
In Hollywood
In Hollywood

Check it out
This bird has flown

Shine your light now
This time it's gotta be good
You get it right now
Yeah
'Cause you're in Hollywood

'Cause you're in Hollywood
'Cause you're in Hollywood
In Hollywood
In Hollywood
In Hollywood

Push the button
Don't push the button
Trip the station
Change the channel

Push the button
Don't push the button
Trip the station
Change the channel

Push the button
Don't push the button
Trip the station
Change the channel

Push the button
Don't push the button
Trip the station
Change the channel

General CommentThis song is very consistent with the overall theme of American Life, the album. This song is pure sarcasm. The general message is that there's more beyond the surface of a visually appealing place like Hollywood. As well, it's obviously showing how superficial and materialistic some people are. Either the people living in Hollywood and flaunting their prized possessions, or those who want to live in Hollywood.

General CommentI agree with cool forever. america isn't the greatest place on earth and by her writing an entire song about* hollywood just shows that there's more to the world than hollywood. this song is actually quite claustrophobic if you think of it at the end it starts glitching because she wants to get out.

General CommentMost of the time, Madonna's songs are lighthearted and happy but some of them are really thoughtful, profound and downright sad-the acoustic rocker Hollywood belongs in the latter group. As a sad bird begins to fly leaving the trappings of fame behind-Madonna herself-she plays her Gibson Hummingbird guitar and begins to cry like a Ciccone baby-All Still Wet, Sad and in Tears-in this song, place and idea/dream/nightmare named Hollywood-Madonna Lives to Tell, Promises to Try and Takes a Bow but barely hanging on-doing it wrong. She needs to escape the American Nightmare-to paraphrase Bob Dylan-for she who isn't born is busy dying. In angry rocker Hollywood, Madonna is dying inside as she starts to cry Wet Tears in her sad babydoll voice-but the way Madonna does it is naive, childlike and endearing. Madonna Cries in Sad and Wet Tears in perhaps her most Madonna-esque hook/refrain/chorus-"Everybody comes to Hollywood/They wanna make it in the neighborhood/They like the smell of it in Hollywood/How could it hurt you when it looks so good?" Yet in the end, Madonna will never leave the Hollywood section of the California sunshine-with its glamour, calm breezes of the palm trees, a formerly hard-luck hockey team who have won the Stanley Cup (Go Kings!) and the Pacific Ocean beaches. After all, it's one of her homes because Madonna is always welcome at parties come Golden Globe and Oscar time every time. Madonna is a celebrity in the very best sense of the terms and the world would be a dull and uncool place without her presence. Finally, Hollywood-Los Angeles is a part of Madonna-her life and music and when she plays Staples Center, the place and her audience are gonna go crazy and explode. In the middle of the song, she tells all of us who love her-"I Tried to leave it but I never could!" Madonna never will. And we're all grateful for that. Madonna is a Superstar-hey aren't we all!-in Hollywood, and anywhere else! Madonna Ciccone-an American original!

General CommentThis song is about how she had to move away from Hollywood to England because she was getting sick of it and because everybody was driving her crazy because of 911 and she had to leave the country.

My OpinionYes, this one is pure sarcasm. I think it's about how Hollywood is superficial and that everyone who wants to become a star always thinks they *need* to be in Hollywood like there's no other place on Earth.

American Life is Madonna's greatest album, Confessions was good while Hard Candy was just a joke. MDNA looks like Hard Candy Part 2 which is not good at all. I hope Madge returns to this sincere style of music.

General Commenti fucken love this song!
its so catchy plus she tells it like it is. People in LA and in various parts of the city like Hollywood, boast people who want to stand out in the crowd, they wear the nicest clothes, try to boast a posse, the finest car, a hot bf/gf, etc.
Madonna left caues she was tired of superficial people and things, no wonder why she turned to Kabbalah...
Plus Kabbalah rocks! (plug in there) cause it deals with truths or mystical aspect about our G-d and the universe we live in :) Its not religion and f- the naysayers who say it is..
    Dont go crazy now...
