This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
Dear John,
I'm sorry
I can't do this anymore
You're not the man I fell in love with
And I have to move on with my life.
Goodbye
Goodbye [3x]
You were the one who'd never leave
Beautiful eyes, you seemed so free
Touching your face I felt complete
Holding your hand my heart would weep
So everything that came out of your mouth
Was full of lies
You looked me right dead in the eyes
You'd call your girlfriends and tell them that
I abused your trust
You did your best to demonize
You were the one who'd never leave
Beautiful eyes, you seemed so free
Touching your face I felt complete
Holding your hand my heart would weep
You were the one who raped my soul
Beautiful lies, you stole my hope
Touching your ass, I scratch the skin
Holding your neck, I tie the rope...
Pulling it tight
You were the one who'd never leave
Beautiful eyes, you seemed so free
Touching your face I felt complete
Holding your hand my heart would weep
You were the one, the one for me
Now that you're gone it's hard to see
So much of me has gone away
There's no need to stay another day
But someone's got to pay [8x]
I'm sorry
I can't do this anymore
You're not the man I fell in love with
And I have to move on with my life.

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
Midnight

Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.
“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
first of all id like to say that this album is great and i wish RA would put out another quality album like this.
and now on to this song..this is one of my favorite songs on the album. He apparently loves this woman, but cant forgive her for breaking her promises that she'd love him forever and for hurting him like she did. THEN she tried to blame it on him. This takes it alittle to an extreme but it captures the emotions quite nicely
RA definitely should put out another album. I like their music.
This song is obviously about a failing relationship. The guy is not upset about his "girlfriend" leaving because she has just become a bother to him. He had once loved her, it seems, but she treated him so badly and returned no love; just ridicule and humiliation. She blames all the problems within their relationship on him when it is most likely her fault. Once the guy pretty much realized how bad he had it with her, she just up and left. And he just didn't care.
DUALITY is their new album, set for release in March, 2005. I've heard preview tracks, and guys, it's gonna rock your socks off!! rafans.net has them available to listen to.
I'd agree with the above posts, except for the last lines.. "You were the one, the one for me Now that you're gone it's hard to see So much of me has gone away There's no need to stay another day (But someone's got to pay)"
Revenge.. yeah baby! He's pretty given up on everything, but he won't be able to rest peacefully until he has taken care of the one last thing bothering him. Maybe its another guy, maybe its her.. only Sahaj knows!!
In this song apparently Sahaj made some record for the longest single note, but I can't seem to find it. I came here to make sure the lyrics matched the song I'm listening to and it does so, uhm yeah, can anyone lead me to it?
Other than that slight bother, this song is really kickass.
This is in response to Passngr's comment. In my mind this is RAs best song ever... but only the live one. RA has a live CD called "raw" the version he does on this cd is where he breaks the world record. He dosn't do it in the studio version. Go take a look at it... one of their street team members put skorn together with a ludacris song... which i know sounds like it would sound aweful but it is totally the coolest thing in my mind! Let me know what you think about it... the ending kicks ass.
I know this is a much darker interpretation than everyone else's, but i think its about his WIFE leaving him. The high pitch voice in the beginning is the letter she left him. You could go as far as to say he is reading it to her just before he kills her, hence him repeating goodbye. Its like Eminem's songs about him killing his ex-wife(alive), when in fact he is just singing his frustrations into a story/song.
Every four lines the song changes rhythms and so does the time/place he is talking to them, and emotion. first stanza(4 lines) he is calm and talking to his wife who is alive but probably already tied down, holding the hand makes him remember or have a flashback, maybe because she doesn't have her ring on anymore.
Stanza two is when all the anger hits him and he is furious, the first two lines about their wedding? The next two are just about her destroying him altogether.
Third Stanza same as first
He starts out in the first two lines of the forth stanza telling her what she did to him before he kills her. The next line about touching her ass and scratching the skin might be what he does while getting her up to the noose. and well you know what the next line is...the guitar solo could represent the actual act of killing her because everything else has been symbolic...
The fifth stanza is of course the chores, the chores is suppose to be calm and ends with him changing moods just like the beat. he becomes sad.
The last stanza he realizes that he has no more will to live and decides to kill himself. But there is a fifth line that suggests he second thinks his suicide and being filled with anger still, decides he more people need to pay.
