When I think back to the
first time in my childhood
When I saw that face
I thought right then,
'That's a real good looking boy'

I saw myself in the mirror
in profile
for the first time
I thought,
'Hey! That's a real good looking boy'

And I felt then
that I moved
With all those lucky bucks and angels
High in the theatre
In the sky

So I ran to my mother
I said,
'Mom take a look at me
Have you ever seen a teen
Fly so high?'

That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy

She said,
'Son, well, you know,
you're an ugly boy.
You don't really look like him

In this long line
There's been some
real strange genes
You've got 'em all
You've got 'em all
With some extras thrown in'

That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy

Wise men say
Only fools, only fools rush in
But I, I can't help
Falling in love, in love with you

Now I'm here with you little darling
And you say, 'You're beautiful as you are'
And I've managed somehow to survive

You arrived in my life like a fragrance
You helped me find a way to laugh
Now I know where my so-called beauty lies

God gave him a face
Then he gave me something above
God gave me a grace
Then he gave me your sweet, sweet, sweet love

You make me feel like I'm a real good looking boy
I feel I'm a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy

I know it's about Elvis, but I get a sense of it being about Pete and Roger. They went to school together, so i figured it was about how Roger was much better looking than Pete, and how Pete was self conscious about his nose. Haven't seen the video, where can I see it?

    Pete's words:

"REAL GOOD LOOKING BOY is a song I wrote quite a few years ago about two young men who worry about their looks. One of them, based on me - hopes and believes he might look like his best friend who is a conventionally handsome fellow. (He is disavowed of this notion by his mother). The second, based on Roger - hopes and believes he will one day turn out to be like the young Elvis. (He, more happily, sees part of his dream come true). They both find love in later life."

This is one of two songs of the Who's first new material in 20 years! Awesome song! Really captures the ways people look at themselves and one's self image, and how the people we make our company with can affect the way we look at ourselves. If you havent had a chance to listen i suggest ypu download a copy asap! you'll enjoy!

I love it. Part of it is about Elvis if you didn't pick up on that. The rest is about love and confidence and self image. The video is fucking fantastic.

Lyric check. The line "Now I know a so-called beauty lies" is actually "Now I know WHERE so-called beauty lies". Makes it a more touching stanza.

when i first heard the song (about 5 minutes ago), i misheard the lyrics, thought the song was completely different, and considered the song really stupidly sappy. but after reading them now, turns out i was completely wrong. went the littlest bit commercial, but i was amazed at how well the music was, after such a long break, and minus entwhislte and moon. roger and pete lost little talent over their break, and pulled it off finely.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
