"Destroy the Map" as written by Steven Holt, Brock Lindow, Thomas Noonan and Mick Whitney....
You couldn't hold your mouth to stop the sound,
With all these riches on the tip of your tongue,
And I was trying to dampen it all out.

You were talking louder than I should here,
Producing nothing but all these mirrors,
And I was trying to play it all down.

With eyes of blood,
These kisses won't rust.
Where the baptized drown,
We used to breathe.

Underneath the red,
Come running back to me.

Sad song, so wrong,
Your body shakes for so long,
Towing me down.
Let's just stay late,
A safe bet for second place.
This time, our time, we have, we'll last.

That evil, a brutal sickness brings,
At times you can't let go
It chases you from everything.
To settle for almost anything,
It's times like these
When you should only choose just not to speak.

And the clouds don't break when the sun is on empty

General CommentYou couldn't hold your mouth to stop the sound,
with all these riches on the tip of your tongue and I,
was trying to dampen it all out.

(He's being told something he doesn't want to be told...whether that she doesn't want to be with him anymore, or she found somebody else....but it sounds like when he says "i was trying to dampen it all out" like he's trying to find a way around believing it...or trying to talk her out of it)

You were talking louder than I should hear,
producing nothing but all these mirrors,
and I was trying to play it all down.

(again she's still saying things he doesn't want to hear, and maybe she's telling him he's to blame for it. And deep down he see's it, but he's still in denial)

    With eyes of blood,
    these kisses won't rust.
    Where the baptized drown,
    we used to breathe.

(i'm not so sure on this one... It makes me question if this relationship wasn't perhaps legit...like maybe he was the 'other man' and she's ending it...and he's saying he'll remember the kisses, and the line "where the baptized drown, we used to breathe" makes me think that perhaps it started off as something innocent.)

    Underneath the red,
come running back to me, come running.

(he doesn't want to lose her)

    Sad song, so wrong,
your body shakes for so long,
    towing me down.
    Let's just stay late,
a safe bet for second place.
This time, our time, we have, we'll last.

(perhaps she's trembling while telling him this, and he's feeling like everything is heading in a downward spiral, and kinda pleaing for her to stay...even though he knows he's 2nd best in her eyes...but he's promising he can make things work)

    That evil,
    a brutal sickness brings,
at times you can't let go,
    it chases you from everything.
    To settle for almost anything.
    It's times like these,
when you should only choose just not to speak.

(he's upset, and saying she's settling for the other.... and he'd rather her have not told him)

And the clouds don't break when the sun is on empty.

(to me he's saying basically nothing good can come from something that wasn't good to begin with...he knows nothing can come from something that was never there to begin with...maybe she felt nothing for him...and just used him....kind of like the saying 'you can't miss what you never had')

General CommentI would guess that this song is about taking a relationship(maybe even a resumed relationship), and breaking out of the mold that normal relationships follow. If that makes sense.

General CommentThis is a fucking increadiable song but i have no idea what the fuck it is about. alot of 36CF lyrics are very abstract. The only thing i can think of is how being 'underneath the red' is getting past someone's bad side, or the part of them that is angry. So to me, the song is about having some kind of bond with someone, and somehow managing to maintain a close relationship despite the ups and downs.

General CommentI agree with friedforgnuts this is about a broken realtionship. Well I think it's broken cuase if the lyric:

    Where the baptized drown,
    we used to breathe.

Like he's (they're cause there are 2 vocalists here, brock is with a friend of his) saying to the girl: "There we were once, but we're far away from that now"

And the clouds won't break when the sun is on empty

And this realtionship won't stand long when you are so damn empty
(wow this makes sense, look at me! I translated a 36CF lyric!!)

General Commenti think the song mite be about anger, and fighting with someone you love.... the first verse lyrics(both brock and his buddy) make me think that they were fighting with someone, and they were trying to tune out everything that they were saying to them. The pre chorus and chorus are pretty much saying "despite our problems, i still love you, forgive me" the only confusing thing is "where the baptized drown, we used to breathe" that can possibly mean something like a sin(I have no clue, brock has stumped me on this one). the bridge i think is indeed about the control that anger can take over you, and makes you say things you dont mean, so u learn in the end to just keep your mouth shut.....I dunno, anyone agree with me about this stuff?

General CommentThis song is soo sad *Cuts himself*

No serious, it's a beautiful song and it reminds me of some fucked up moments in my life.
I cant really interprete much in these lyrics without repeating what has been said.
One of the best 36CF song ever.

General CommentEven though I don't really get the whole message out of this song, to me the last line and the title say it all to me:

And the clouds won't break when the sun is on empty

Things will nog get better if you look at it from a dark side. Otherwise, when looking things from a bright side, you will see that things will get better eventually. At least it's a start.
Destroy the map (the way you got here, what happened in the past and hold you down) and start living now!

All togehter: Don't let your past get you down! Things will not get better if you hold on to them. Destroy the map. Start shining, so the dark clouds will break, whatever happens or happened.
