"Never Get Old" as written by and David Bowie....
Better take care
I think I better go, I better get a room
Better take care of me
Again and again
I think about this and I think about personal history

Better take care
I breathe so deep when the movie gets real
When the star turns round
Again and again
He looks me in the eye says he's got his mind on a countdown
3, 2, 1
Forever

I'm screaming that I'm gonna be living on till the end of time
Forever
The sky splits open to a dull red skull
And my head hangs low 'cause it's all over now

And there's never gonna be enough money
And there's never gonna be enough drugs
And I'm never ever gonna get old
There's never gonna be enough bullets
There's never gonna be enough sex

And I'm never ever gonna get old
So I'm never ever gonna get high
And I'm never ever gonna get low
And I'm never ever gonna get old

Better take care
The moon flows on to the edges of the world because of you
Again and again
And I'm awake in an age of light living it because of you

Better take care
I'm looking at the future solid as a rock because of you
Again and again
want to be here and I want to be there
Living just like you, living just like me
Forever

Putting on my gloves and bury my bones in the marshland
Forever
Think about my soul but I don't need a thing just the ring of the bell in the pure clean air

And I'm running down the street of life
And I'm never gonna let you die
And I'm never ever gonna get old
And I'm never ever gonna get

I'm never ever gonna get
I'm never ever gonna get old
And I'm never ever gonna get
And I'm never ever gonna get
Never ever gonna get old

General Commentyour interps all make a lot of sense and will change the way i listen to this song! i just always thought that he didn't wanna get old, lol.

just now it occurred to me: does bowie mean that his status as a rock icon, as bowie the icon and not as david jones the man, will never get old? like, it'll always be hip and in style to listen to bowie. unlike, i don't know, legwarmers and big hair, the essense bowieness will never die and get old.

My InterpretationTo me, this song is about addiction-induced nihilism

General CommentWow, what a great song! And no comments? Are there no modern Bowie fans here?

I guess this song is about being love with someone and it changing the way you feel about life. Or maybe it's more depressing - maybe it's about wishing/deluding yourself that you will never get old, never die, but this mindset leads to never getting enough of anything (drugs, money, sex). The person that Bowie is singing about is a way to gain this sense of immortality, to be caught in the moment and never have to face the inevitable passage of time and the trials of love.

General CommentGood theory, caitsith. I'm going with that one as well.
Great song... I love how it sounds so uppity, yet the message conveyed is really kind of depressing.

General CommentYeah Caitsith, I think so too. Maybe put more simply: He's bored with life and yet he tries as hard as he can to have a fucking amazing time (knowing he won't succeed).
So far for the lyrics. What did Bowie himself want to achieve with this song as a single? He's frustrated with a hit-less life, and tries his utmost to score a big fat hit, with this catchiest of tunes (knowing, that probably ...)
