Six bottles went down the drain
One hour's a waste of time
I'd ask if you feel the same
Still pushing that chance to try
Your breath in this cool room chill
Long hair that blows side to side
You speak and make time stand still
And each time you walk right on by

Like violence you have me
Forever, and after
Like violence you kill me
Forever, and after

Can't count all the eyes that stare
Can't count all the things they see
She kills with no life to spare
Just victims are left to bleed
One drink and the pain goes down
Soft shadows lay by her feet
Lay soft as you slowly drown
Lay still as you fall asleep
(Fall asleep)

Like violence you have me
Forever, and after
Like violence you kill me
Forever and after
(And after, and after)
(And after)

Like violence you have me
Forever, and after
Like violence you kill me
Like violence you have me
Forever, and after
Like violence you kill me
Like violence you kill me

Like violence you have me
Forever, and after
Like violence you kill me
Forever and after
Like violence you have me
Forever, and after
Like violence you kill me
Forever and after

i found out what hes saying its:

"Who'll stand by your side? So watch my eyes. Watch 'em turn while you go change. Curtains down. When all their skill was cut, and I bled. There were forces of John Jones. I can't make you happy. It seems all i ever do is try. You could never cut me deep enough to leave a scar. So take this gift. It's somethin to save"

Five years later... Here I am commenting on this song. I'm going to see blink this summer so I was listening to all their albums I had sitting in my closet when I came across this song. I remember I used to despise it, but taking another listen, I am addicted to it. Now the story Tom is telling is pretty straightforward. "Man I adore her. But so does everyone else in the room. I know full well how she works, she's a heartbreaker, yada yada yada" But I thought the things that Mark is mumbling in the interlude were kind of interesting, and they have to have a deeper meaning to them.

"Who'll stand by your side?" she's got all these relationships but nobody wants to stick around to see what happens to her.

"So watch my eyes, watch them turn while you go change" He cant bear to look at her while she changes, he wants her to know that. He wants her to stop being a maneater. Maybe "While you go change" doesn't mean undress though. Maybe it means a change of heart. As if shes changing for the worse right before his eyes and he can't stand to watch.

"Curtains down." "All the eyes that stare" are no longer staring. Its just him and her.

"When all their skill was cut, and I bled." Listen to the second verse, "She kills when the life despair Just victims are left to bleed" Maybe she's cutting others' confidence, but he doesn't let her get inside that deep, he refuses to be rendered insecure, so he just sits and bleeds instead.

"There were forces of John Jones" To be honest, I have no idea. John Jones is an average joe kind of name. Maybe he's just saying, they were everyday forces. Or maybe something entirely different.

"I can't make you happy, it seems all I ever do is try." pretty self explanatory.

"You could never cut me deep enough to leave a scar" Another "she cuts her victims and leaves them to bleed." reference. She hurt him alright, but he wont remember her, or he wont let her bring down his self esteem too much.

"So take this gift, its something to save." Save has several meanings. He could mean that he's giving her something to remember him by, although he wont have any memories of her. Or he could mean that he's trying to save her from her old ways.

Alright, I'm done rambling, I hope that made sense to anyone who spent their precious time reading an aimless comment of mine.

this comes close to asthenia for best song on the album. not quite though. and as much as i like this song, and i know you blink fans can get mighty defensive, it has to be said that whoever thought up the intro drumming/guitar drone was listning to the intro to 'a song for the dead' by queens of the stoneage a little too much. but that aside its of course a great song on an amazing album. it makes me so angry when i talk about this album and everyone replies "their old stuff is better". A: its not, and B: when some cunts i talk to say 'old stuff' they mean enema of the state anyway. poor ignorant folk.

Summary of all that shit up there^: He likes a girl that's a player, and she wont pay any attention to him, and he's just completely OBSESSED with her. He also notices that she's a player, but still is obsessed. Because of this obsession, he'll do anything to get her attention, and he'll do anything for her. He's kinda like her slave..... Everyone's watching to see what will happen.....

this is the best i could explain it......sorry, i'm not awake today, and it's about 1 in the morning....

ok......i read it as soon as i got it, cuz i haven't heard it in forever, and it just started playing in my mind. By the way, the line that says "Your breath in this cool room chill" it's wrong, it's supose to be "your breath is cool and chill"...... Anyway, i think it's that he's drinking his problems away (6 bottles down the drain).....and there's a girl with him, and he's "still pushing the chance to try", if you know what i mean. And he's obsessed with her, and has been for a long time, and because of that obsession, he doesn't weird things to please her....(you have me forever and after)....if you've ever been obsessed with someone, you know what i mean, you'll do anything to please them. Everyone knows about him obsessing over her...."cant count all the eyes that stare"..... She's this player, and he's obsessed with her, that's pretty much all there is to it......she leaves her victims behind.....uh huuuhhhhh.......i'm just kinda rambling.....oh, each time he trys to get her attention, she just "walks right on by".....and i'm guessing he's kinda depressed about it......

I reckon this song proves how fucking awesome Travis is on the drums. The whole scene with the guy seeing a woman he wants in the bar is pretty obvious really and I like that the song meaning isn't too deep, just really lite and nice. Love the song!

This has definitely become one of my favorite songs over the years. When I first got the album I didn't really like it and thought it was a weird song but its definitely grown on me since I started getting deeper into music and the thoughts behind it.

this song is WAY too much like refused "blind date" with the whole percusion/vocal verses and the explosion of the instruments in the chorus. the refused song is 50 times better though.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
