I miss you, miss you

Hello there
The angel from my nightmare
The shadow in the background of the morgue
The unsuspecting victim
Of darkness in the valley
We can live like Jack and Sally if we want
Where you can always find me
And we'll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we'll wish this never ends
We'll wish this never ends

I miss you, I miss you
I miss you I miss you

Where are you?
And I'm so sorry
I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting every time
And as I stared I counted
The webs from all the spiders
Catching things and eating their insides
Like indecision to call you
And hear your voice of treason
Will you come home and stop the pain tonight
Stop this pain tonight

Don't waste your time on me
You're already the voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)
Don't waste your time on me
You're already the voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)

Don't waste your time on me
You're already the voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)
Don't waste your time on me
You're already the voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)
Don't waste your time on me
You're already the voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)
Don't waste your time on me
You're already the voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)

I miss you, I miss you
I miss you, I miss you
I miss you, I miss you
I miss you, I miss you

    My Interpretation

I've liked this song for awhile, I used to think of it as being about someone coming to terms with the death of their partner. A few months ago though I got a different feeling about it. I had a pretty bad break up, it was just out of nowhere and we always talked about how it was gonna be us forever. I turned this song on and it was like each lyric related to my emotions.

The first verse is about the man reminiscing on how he met her. "Hello there the angel from my nightmare" this line says a lot, I interpreted it as his life not going well like he was depressed and had no one to go to. Then when all hope was lost he met her and fell in love, seeing her as an angel sent to save him. Her love being a brightness in the dark. The rest of it establishes how close they become, always being in contact, doing things there way, and wishing the time they have together wilt never end.

The second verse is him trying to sleep after she left him. "where are you and I'm so sorry I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight" He's sitting there knowing she's gone but not used to her not being with him, he cant accept what happens and at first tries to blame himself "Im so sorry". He tries to sleep but he cant sleep she's the only thing on his mind preventing him from dreaming. "This sick strange darkness, comes creeping up so haunting overtime" hes trying to get his mind off it but every time the pain creeps back up on him and finds him. "Like indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason" He wants to call her and work things out but he knows she wont allow him so he's trying to resist. She promised to "live like Jack and Sally" and be there forever and now she's going back on her promise, her "words of treason". "Will you come home and stop this pain tonight? Stop this pain tonight!" He's gives in to the pain and calls her but this time has lost all hope and simply begs for her to come back so he can stop hurting.

"Don't waste your time on me, you're already the voice inside my head" she feels bad for him and guilty for hurting him so she offers him a friendship and tells her she still wants to be there for him. He doesn't want this hollow friendship and tells her not to waste her time because all the loving things she said in the past were the only thing in his head. As the piano increases in speed he's panicking, coming to the realization this fake friendship is all she has to offer and his memories in his head are all he'll ever have. as it slows down again to echo the chorus its a bitter-sweet feeling, he is still heart broken over losing her but finds some peace in the memories he has in his head and his heart.

    Song Meaning

Personally, I think this song is about a relationship/'thing' a guy has had in the past with a girl he loved/was falling in love with and all though his had time to get over her, he hasn't. He doesn't want to take the first step towards her because he thinks that's her move to take, although his finding it quite hard to keep away. He can't stop thinking about her and all he wants is for everything to go back to how they were but he knows from what's happened, the reason things went wrong, It wont be the same again, so he doesn't want to fight for it. His confused on what he wants and what he should do since he doesn't want to be stuck with the love and plus a broken heart.

Anyone ever think that this song is about the boyfriend dying and he is singing to his girlfriend as a ghost/spirit from beyond the grave? Seems to make sense to me in both verses. The first verse was when he first died and is saying hello to his gf, sort of introducing her. "the shadow in the background of the morgue" could refer to when she came to identify his body. "The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley" means that she is a victim of death. Darkness in the valley means death such as the religious reference "valley of the shadow of death". The death is him specifically dying.

Although he is dead, he is feeling optimistic that they as a couple will be ok. They could "live like Jack and Sally" (from the Nightmare before Christmas) and ..."we'll have Halloween on Christmas" could mean that they could hang out at night at the graveyard and have a good time.

The second verse is when he realizes that them together forever will never happen. As time passes, she visits his grave less and less. He's sorry that he died. He cannot sleep or dream because he is dead. He stares at the living spiders inside his coffin trapping, killing, and eating things. This reminds him further that he is dead and she is not. The "voice of treason" means that she has moved on with her life and will not be his "Sally" anymore.

After this, the chorus comes in and this means that he wants her to move on with her life and that he will never forget her.

    My Interpretation

In my opinion, this song is not talking about someone who passes away and her partner misses here, neither of a guy that broke up with his girlfriend. I listened to this song for first time when someone really important gave it to me when we just started talking like gf and bf. "hello there, the angel from my nightmare" his life is not easy, he has problems but she is a good thing in his life, she is the angel in his nightmare. "the unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley, we can live like jack and sally if we want" he never thought he would fall in love with her thats why he says the unsuspecting victim, and he talks about jack and sally because of their unconditional love, their perfect love... "where you can always find me, we'll have halloween on christmas and in the night we'll wish this never ends" he is saying that he will always be there for her and is talking about the movie, they will wish be together for ever. "and im so sorry i can not sleep i cant not dream tonight" he cant sleep because he is thinking about her, he misses her so much. then he talks of his indesicion to call her and maybe tell her how much he loves her, "dont waste your time on me you are already the voice inside my head" he is telling her that she doesnt have to waste her time showing him that she is the perfect girl for him because he already knows it and she is the girl (the voice inside his head)

Bugalou, I always assumed that the "angel from my nightmare" line was about how their relationship saved him from loneliness or depression and that that makes him feel worse about breaking up. What you say sounds right, but I still don't understand "don't waste your time on me" if she's dead.

I still cant wrap my head around the meaning of the hook. it made sense to me once.. really good sense. But now I'm just as confused as I'll ever be.

This has to be one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. It has the power to bring you back to a place where you wished you'd never return. Yet you listen to it over and over, regardless. The words, the melody.. his voice. So captivating. A persons voice never made me feel so alive, but on the verge of death. it makes me hurt.

I agree this song can be interpreted in many ways. For me it will only ever mean one thing.

(Hello there, the angel from my nightmare the shadow in the background of the morgue)

I was in love with a man, who was no good for me. He was toxic. I couldn't get enough of him. I'd never been so addicted to anything in my life. This infatuation made me do things I would never do... I made a lot of mistakes. My life became a nightmare. And even though his magnetism was the reason for my self destruction... it didn't matter. I still had him. he would never leave me. The angel from my nightmare. The morgue, we were both headed there. we were waiting. it was okay, as long as he was there. I would die for him. this is how I felt about me.. and how he felt about me in return. the next line is him talking to me.

The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley, we can live like jack and sally if we want where you can always find me and well have Halloween on Christmas and in the night, we'll wish this never ends well wish this never ends.

I wasn't expecting my life to get so bad. I was a victim to his deadly charm. He would have loved for me to stay with him, in his misery. and he would never change. I would always find him there, he was not like the rest. he was backwards, and I was too. I never wanted to leave him. and even though even the brightest of days became dark, we never wanted it to end. we were content in our misery, because we had eachother.

where are you? and I'm so sorry I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight I need somebody and always, this sick, strange darkness comes creeping on, so haunting everytime and as I stared I counted the webs from all the spiders gashing things and eating their insides like the indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason will you come home and stop this pain tonight stop this pain tonight

Where are you? And I'm so sorry Probably the most emotional line in the whole song, but I cant really decide. obviously, it ended. We lost eachother. We were both alone, with nothing to do but stare at the ceiling and miss one another. sleep was not possible, dreaming was longed for, beacsue when we dreamed, we were together. being alone was hard. I never wanted to be alone, because it made me think about how I lost everything just to have him... and now he was gone just like everything else in my life. being alone made my mind wander to places he kept me out of. I needed him there to distract me. so he could keep doing what he was doing all along. distracting me from reality.

the spiders are a metaphor for the emptiness, and how bad my stomach turned every time I wanted to pick up that phone.. or every time I did, and he never answered. Where was he? he was lost somewhere. His prescence was the only thing that would stop the pain of emptiness I felt. I just wanted him to come home, even though I knew we could never be.

don't waste your time on me. you're already the voice inside my head. I miss you.

I still don't know. don't bother trying to find me, you're already just a memory. but I will always love you. I miss you.

    Song Meaning

i think this song is about him losing a loved one(either a wife or girl friend)

Hello there, the angel from my nightmare the shadow in the background of the morgue

Angel is referring to who has died and he has nightmares with her in them

Morgue is where they hold the dead bodies

"the unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley we can live like Jack and Sally if we want where you can always find me we'll have Halloween on Christmas"

Unsuspecting victim means that it wasn't any kind of planned death and it also proves it was suicide. Jack and Sally are 2 characters in the night before Christmas, 2 dead characters who lived in the darkness "where you can always find him" means that he will always be in the darkness with her being gone.

Halloween on Christmas is a movie reference

the second verse is basically summing up how he feels

but this stood out for me

'like indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason will you come home and stop this pain tonight stop this pain tonight'

i believe he is thinking back to the night to the night she died, and that he could have called her and tried to fix "something" or maybe she betray him and thats why he used the word treason?

    Song Meaning

Line by line here we go bubs

Hello there, the angel from my nightmare- Obviously the person that he refers to is held in a very high esteem thus the angel of the nightmare he is going through. At this point we have yet to find out what it is. However the hello there tells you he is calling out

The shadow in the background of the morgue- Now we now that this is about death. The shadow is that movement that you see out of the corner of your eye that when you focus on it is gone.

The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley- This line makes reference to two things. 1 The individual died as a victim (murder?) unexpectedly 2. darkness in the valley refer to the passage from the bible walking through the valley of the shadow of dead. So the person that passed died unexpectedly and is unexpectedly going through the valley of the shadow of dead.

We can live like Jack and Sally if we want- This is from the nightmare before christmas Jack Skellington and Sally his love. The living is willing to live in the world of the dead just to be next to the person that passed and he loves so much.

Where you can alway find me. We'll have halloween on Christmas- Again alluding to nightmare before christmas and the world of the dead. The living is willing to turn his Christmas into an occassion of death as long as he is next to the person he loves even if it is in the form of a ghost.

And in the night we'll wish this never ends- very literal as he share his live with this dead entity due to the love they feel for each other they will want it to never end.

Where are you and I'm so sorry I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight- He is trying to look for her, the ghost, where are you, he cant find her, he can't find her ghost. He can't sleep thus he can't dream and have the dreams/nightmare in which she comes to visit him. He apologizes because he can't bring her back to him due to the insomnia.

I need somebody and always This sick strange darkness Comes creeping on so haunting every time- He is calling out to the ghost expressing his loneliness and at the same time the fear or heavyness he feels as her presence begins to be felt by him, thus the strange darkness that creeps in and is haunting, because again it is a connection of the dead and living

And as I stared I counted Webs from all the spiders Catching things and eating their insides- This line illustrates the morbity of the situation. He is afraid and is feeling doubt not about his love but about the hauntings

Like indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason- Here he is hesitant to call out the ghost just like when you feel someone is standing behind you and you don't want to turn around. He is hesitant to call her and hear her voice. The voice of treason I think is open to interpretation. He could mean a religious treason where there is no afterlife or where the dead don't go to heaven, but hang out las ghosts. Or the one I like most is that he feels betrayed because of ther death. She betrayed him by dying and now again by not showing up to haunt him at night or in his dreams.

Will you come home and stop this pain tonight- She hasn't come to haunt him and thus he begs her to come home and stop his pain with her presence albeit a ghost to Stop this pain tonight

Don't waste your time on me you're already The voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you) Don't waste your time on me you're already The voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)- He has resign to not seeing her, feeling her, being haunted by her and he, because of how much he loves her, releases her. Don't waste your time on me- meaning coming back from where ever she is to haunt him and be with hime. Presumably coming down from heaven to be a ghost on earth just to be with him. HE RELEASES HER SO SHE CAN BE HAPPY and tells here you are already in my head... you already live in me, maybe as his conciousness, she will forever be with him. She can now go to heaven.

The best song ever written about losing a loved partner. Gets me everytime. I mean who would not want at first be with the person you love no matter what, ghost, dreams haunting etc. but then you must realize that they have to go to that next stage and that they will never truly leave you because the will live in you forever.

    damit ya'll made me cry.

She's not dead! If she's dead, how could he have "indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason"? They broke up and he feels betrayed and doesn't want her back "Don't waste your time on me", but he still has a dependency on her "you're already the voice inside my head".

Hello there, the angel from my nightmare: The woman who made everything seem good and right the shadow in the background of the morgue: At first I didn't see her among my bleak surroundings the unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley: I didn't suspect someone so perfect to be afflicted we can live like Jack and Sally if we want: But we can forget and live a life together where you can always find me: I'll always be there we'll have Halloween on Christmas: Despite our differences and in the night we'll wish this never ends: While dark things still continue, we'll be our own light we'll wish this never ends: We can only wish

I miss you, I miss you: Although, it has ended.

Where are you and I'm so sorry: I want to find you and correct my mistake I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight: I lost faith in us I need somebody and always: I need more people to fill the hole in my soul, but they aren't you this sick strange darkness: I don't want them, I don't love them, I sicken myself comes creeping on so haunting every time: Temporary satisfaction dissipates to worsening dissatisfaction and as I stared I counted: I lay in bed and regret webs from all the spiders: Every woman's bed in this dark period catching things and eating their insides: In truth, they conquer me and eat away my soul like indecision to call you: If I could only talk to you, but what would I say? and hear your voice of treason: I'm angry because you could move on will you come home and stop this pain tonight: If you only remembered that we completed each other stop this pain tonight: Please come back to me

Don't waste your time on me you're already the voice inside my head (I miss you, miss you)

But I know you won't come back to me, and I don't want you to, because I know you're happy, and that gives me some solace. I don't want to hurt you anymore, because I probably will never change. Every bit of pain I made you suffer, I will hold on to the regret forever with the sound of your voice reminding me how much I miss you.

don't waste your time on me you're already the voice inside my head (I miss you, miss you)

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
