"Drunkship Of Lanterns" as written by and Omar/bixler Rodriguez....
You've got the lot to burn
A shelve of pig smotherd cries
Is there a spirit that spits
Upon the exit of signs
Is anybody there
These steps keep on growing long
Bayonet trials rust propellers await
No
Nobody is heard
Rowing sheep smiles for the dead
Nobody is heard
An antiquated home
Afloat with engines on mute
Sui generis ship spined around the yard
Is anybody there
These craft only multiply
At the nape of ruins rust propellers await
No
Nobody is heard compass wilting in the wind
Nobody is heard
Rowing sheep smile for the dead
Tansoceanic depth in this earth
In this cenotaph
Lash of one thousand eye brows clicking
Counting the toll
Counting the toll
You've got the lot to burn
A shelve of pig smothered cries
Is there a spirit that spits upon the exit of signs
Is anybody there
These steps keep on growing long
Bayonet trials rust propellers await
No
Nobody is heard compass wilting in the wind
Nobody is heard rowing sheep smile for the dead
Transoceanic depth in this earth in this cenotaph
Carpel jets
Hit the ground
Carpel jets
Hit the ground
Carpel jets
Hit the ground
Carpel jets
Hit the ground
Lash of one thousand eyebrows clicking
Counting the toll
Counting the toll
Lash of one thousand eyebrows clicking
Counting the toll
Counting the toll

General CommentIm sure that alot of the people who listen to this band are musicians....It puzzles me how one can think of writing songs like this, lyricly and musically...i always tell people, being able to play something hard is gratifying, but to be able to think of such things is far beyond harder than actually thinkin of such parts to fit in peices of music like this...pure freekin genious

General CommentThis song's fucking amazing. Just like TMV. I've only just recently gotten into them (my cousin introduced me to them about two months ago, then burned me all their stuff about three weeks ago), but I have to say, in the short time I've known about them, they've become one of my favorite bands of all time. Their lyrics are genious, if only because they're so fucking unorthodox...This song kind of epitomizes why I love them so much, in that kind of way that you can't find a word in the entire English language to describe it. Just when they open up with the syncopated guitar rhythm and, "No, nobody is heard."

    FANTASTIC.

General Commentif anyone needs to know the backup vocals during "is anybody there" and "these steps keep on growing long"
they are "spines in a row" and "spite as an arrow"

General CommentI've only recently gotten into the Mars Volta but I'm really digging this one. I don't really get what they're doing with the "pig" and "sheep" parts (farm animal motif?), cuz there's kind of a story behind the De-Loused album, right? but anyway, Cedric's delivery really fits the desparation and drunken confused-ness in this one.

General Commentthis is an amazing song but everything about the mars volta is so complicated and heavily built upon. so much so that the music hardly has a pattern and the lyrics are close to meaningless. that is no criticism though, it's the best thing about tmv. this song is breathtaking and it is a perfect example of how music has evolved to blur the boundaries of genre.

General CommentI like what i.am.harriet said about, "this song is breathtaking and it is a perfect example of how music has evolved to blur the boundaries of genre". Whenever someone asks me what kind of music the mars volta play, I'm always like, "Uh... well... I don't really know." But that's what makes them so awesome. These guys just give 'er and make the craziest, creepiest music I've ever heard. The first time I listened to this album I got such chills....There's so many times in a lot of the songs where I'll just shiver because the music is so fantastic... It's so good it makes me ill....
