"Drift Away (Feat. Dobie Gray)" as written by and Mentor R. Williams....
Day after day I'm more confused
Yet I look for the light in the pouring rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
I'm feelin' the strain, ain't it a shame

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
(Won't you take me away?)

Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I'm countin' on you to carry me through

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue
The guitar's comin' through to soothe me
Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You help me along makin' me strong

General Commenti used to think this guy was telling us his favorite band: "Oh, give me the Beach Boys, etc." Oops

General CommentUh... this is not a rock song, or even a country song for that matter.

Dobie Gray (who does background vocals in this version) did the original as a soul tune.

General CommentI like this. Its just, like was said, a feel good song. Once I was upset about one thing or another, and I heard this song, and it just kind of made everything better. Kind of strange, but thats how it is.

General CommentIt always bugs me that the chorus keeps talking about getting "lost in your rock and roll", and yet this song's pretty much the furthest thing from rock & roll possible.

General Commentnot all rock and roll is hard heavy rock. all classic rock bands have slow songs.

General CommentI don't know why, but I really like this song. I usually hate country music, but this song is an exception.

General CommentPersonally I think its epic! First time I heard this song it was around midnight and I was driving across the middle of nowhere New Mexico on my way home in my '67 convertible mustang with the top down to keep me awake. It was amazing.
