"Ramona" as written by and Mabel/gilbert Wayne....
Ramona, where have you been?
I couldn't go to sleep till you came in
Ramona, you're Miss Oklahoma
And you miss Oklahoma
I'll get you what you want

There were days when a refrain
Would brighten our corner of Hickory Lane
When you would sing that song for me
Just like your favorite singer

Why'd you have to be so nice?
A wink and a girlish smile
And why'd you have to punch my eye?

That was something
But I still want you to stay
When I was younger and thought of myself
I never dreamed I'd become like this

A snap of your fingers,
And end to the arguments
Anything for you, love

There were days when a refrain
Would brighten our corner of Hickory Lane
When you would sing that song for me

The only one you know
But I know now, not at the start,
We're going to pieces, we're falling apart
So won't you sing that song for me
Just like your favorite singer?

General Commenti may be way off here, cuz i dont think any of the guys in the band have kids, but to me it sounds a little bit like the relationship between a father and his daughter as she grows up.

at the very beginning, he says "i couldn't go to sleep till you came in". he sounds like a parent worrying when his child stays out too late.

it also explains the part about punching him the eye--babies do that sometimes, not necessarily as a sign of dislike, but out of affection. when he asks, "did you want me to stay?" it could be that he's unsure of the relationship they have; perhaps he's divorced and doesn't see her a lot.

the verse that starts off, "when i was younger and thought of myself..." definitely sounds like something a lot of fathers would say once they have children.

also, the fact that she only knows one song and the references to "your favorite singer" sound like it's a child. like when you're a kid, you hear one song that you like and suddenly it's your favorite song and the artist is your favorite singer.

and finally, at the end, he says "we're going to pieces, we're falling apart", it could be that she's a teenager now, and she's going through the whole phase where she dislikes her parents and is starting to outgrow them. he says, "so come and sing that song for me, just like your favorite singer"--reminds me of when your parents tell you that you'll always be their little baby. ;)

i hope i'm not way off.

General Commentlove this song. .great. .i think the verse "when i was younger and thought of myself, i never dreamed id become like this, a snap of your fingers and end to the arguments, anything for you love." is funny cuz it reminds me of my boyfriends and i relationship when we sometimes fight.

General CommentThis nostalgia-laced song is about a former relationship of his. It sounds like they broke up over a dispute where she punched his eye, and she was from Oklahama and was very pretty, and he hasn't heard from her in years.

General Commentthats an interesting idea wimpy_shrimpy, now that i listen to the song agan i think it could be about a father-daughter relationship...
the way i've been thinking about it is that ramona is his childhood friend turned sweetheart. she is lovable and he adores her, but becomes protective of her...so much that he can't get to sleep till she comes in. she has changed from the little girl he loved, but he can't stop loving her...his nostalgia about days past is what keeps him going ("come and sing that song for me")..he's become like her little puppy, "anything for you, love"......it's such an adorable song :)

General CommentHe lived on hickory lane when he grew up. it's right in back of the middle school and down the hill from the high school. Ramona was his friend all throughout middle but during high school she became his girlfriend. i go the the same high school he did and you hear about them occasionally.

General CommentThe verses suck, but the chorus is completely worth it.

Ramona is one of those people who draws you but is bad for you. Like a human crack or something. He does whatever she wants but then she leaves him and punches him. He tries to get her back even after all that, but he doesn't. When they would fight, he would sing to her or play music and everything would be better. Hence, the refrain brightening their corner of Hickory Lane.
