Don't look at me
Every day is so wonderful
Then suddenly
It's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain
I'm so ashamed
I am beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful
In every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today
To all your friends, you're delirious
So consumed
In all your doom, mm
Trying hard to fill the emptiness
The pieces gone
Left the puzzle undone
Ain't that the way it is?
You are beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful
In every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today
No matter what we do (no matter what we do)
No matter what we say (no matter what we say)
We're the song inside the tune (yeah, yeah, oh, yeah)
Full of beautiful mistakes
And everywhere we go (and everywhere we go)
The sun will always shine (the sun will always, always)
And tomorrow we might wake
On the other side (shine)
'Cause we are beautiful
No matter what they say
Yes, words won't bring us down, oh no
We are beautiful
In every single way
Yes, words can't bring us down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today
Oh, oh, yeah
Don't you bring me down today, yeah, ooh
Don't you bring me down, ooh
Today
Every day is so wonderful
Then suddenly
It's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain
I'm so ashamed
I am beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful
In every single way

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
I love this song. The lyrics have so much meaning and are very deep, unlike a lot of popular music today. The first line, "Don't look at me." sets the tone for the rest of the song. It's whispered, and it implies that Christina (or Linda, but I’m going to stick with Christina for this interpretation since she’s singing) is ashamed of how she looks. She would rather be invisible or ignored than be seen for who she really is. Christina might feel this way because of a physical feature, or it might be another characteristic that she feels is visible to those around her. The main point is that Christina is worried this characteristic will cause others to think of her as an outcast. She is worried that the others will rank her below them, denying her the acceptance that everybody wants. Verse 1 In the first verse, Christina is singing about herself. It starts, “Every day is so wonderful/ Then suddenly/ It’s hard to breathe.” The first line is important for the song, because it shows that Christina is not depressed. The days start out beautiful for her — maybe she spends time alone in the mornings or outside surrounded by nature’s ‘morning glory,’ and it puts her at peace. She carries this serenity and hope with her as the day begins. However, when this wears off, Christina is struck with the realization that life is not so carefree. Depending on the circumstances, it may be physically hard to breathe, or that might be a metaphor for the weight of sorrow she carries. “Now and then I get insecure/ From all the pain” are the next lines. Everybody, no matter how confident, feels insecure sometimes. For Christina, it must happen more often than not. Maybe when she sees groups of friends laughing together she wonders if they’re laughing at her. Or she might feel insecure and self-conscious when she sees a model on a magazine cover. She is not satisfied with being herself because she feels like she is not good enough, and it pains her. The next line is, “I’m so ashamed.” This line sums up what Christina has been saying the whole verse. She is ashamed that she is different, but what she doesn’t realize is that differences are what make people unique. If everyone was the same, what would be interesting about other people? She is ashamed because status quo says “If you act or look different from everyone else, you’re unaccepted.” Christina, in this song, wants so desperately to fit in…but she isn’t accepted. And she’s ashamed of that — she’s ashamed to be herself. There should be nothing wrong with that. 1st Chorus Christina continues to sing about herself in the first chorus, so I thought I’d do it with the first verse. The first lines are “I am beautiful.” This contradicts Christina’s emotions in the verse. She was describing her insecurities and how she is ashamed of herself, but now she is stating that she is beautiful. Her sense of hope is re-apparent. “No matter what they say/ Words can’t bring me down.” Christina is saying that no matter what other people tell her, no matter how many times they put her down, she won’t give up. She is strong, and she knows that their words are meaningless — because every person is beautiful. She goes on to say again, “I am beautiful/ In every single way.” Inside and out, Christina can accept herself. “Yes words can’t bring me down/ Oh no.” She reiterates that words can’t hurt her; people can say what they want. She may feel insecure, but those words will never cause her to break. It again shows her sense of strength. Finally Christina says “So don’t you bring me down today.” This is almost a warning to anyone who bullied her in the past. She is letting them know that no matter how many times they try to bring her down, she will never fall. So they shouldn’t waste their time.
wauw, it's a very good interpetation. You wrote it beautiful. Can you please write your interpetation of the other parts of the song?
there a gay couple on the video, i don't know what they tryin' to say about gay people, it just doesn't make any sense to me, they think being gay is not happy? you're wrong guys.. we're sooo happy and proud to ourselves.
a lot of people think gay people are different.. but it's not. :)
i like this song. It shows that she cares about people that arent really pretty. like me even they say i'm not i think so even if she doesnt care it makes me feel better that she sings about this then things I REALLY DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT. ciao!
I love this song , it has so much meaning , practice makes perfect but nobodys perfect so why practice ?????? Everyone is beautiful no matter who , where or why , they are and will be forever and on !!!!

Everyone is unique, it's true, but nevertheless everyone can improve the way they are. This song is against prejudice, it screams against those who wish to "bring us down", but in my own private way I wish to be a better person than I am. If everyone thought they are at their best just because they are like that, there would be no improvement in anybody. I think this song says more "keep on going down your road and don't listen to those who despise you" rather than "never change yourself and stay whatever you are" - that would be too "consoling"
this song is so self explanatory and i give Xtina props for her new album! she rox. if reading or listening to the lyrics doesnt clear your mind on who she is...watch the video. all it portrays is people who at first feel inferior because of their true selves but then learn to love themselves for who they are. anyone who talks shit should first look in a mirror because (sorry if im the one to break it to you but) no one is perfect!
i dis-like christina aguilera but this song is amazing! it truely shows people her insecurities and how she really feels props to christina for making a good song finally and not being naked in the video
i dont like christina aguilera either, but i bought her CD just for this song!! it makes me feel so good! and i love the music video!
This is such an inspirational song. I loved it the first time i heard it, and i do believe it was the second single she released from her album, 'Stripped'. I love the way it's so encouraging, and supportive. The song says that it doesn't matter what you look like, what your sexuality is, or the way you live your life. There is a place in the world for everyone and everyone's beautiful in their own special way. I think this is a very positive message to be honest and i think Christina Aguilera handled it well. She has such a powerful voice and she conveys a strong message. I admire her.
i love this song cuz its so true and i admire christina for saying wat she feels...she is so beautiful, on the outside and in....keep it up i lvoe you
this song really hits home for me, everyone always tells me im very good looking, but i just cant seem to look in the mirror and see it, its all about being beautiful for yourself and not for other people, thats when you can look in the mirror and like whats looking back at you.
