I've been drivin' for an hour
Just talkin' to the rain
You say I've been drivin' you crazy
And it's keepin' you away
So just give me one good reason
Tell me why I should stay
'Cause I don't want to waste another moment
In sayin' things we never meant to say

And I take it just a little bit
I, hold my breath and count to ten
I, I've been waitin' for a chance to let you in

If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright
If I just breathe

Well it's all so overrated
In not sayin' how you feel
So you end up watchin' chances fade
And wonderin' what's real

And I give you just a little time
I, wonder if you realize
I've been waitin' 'til I see it in your eyes

If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright
If I just breathe
Breathe

So I whisper in the dark
Hopin' you'll hear me
Do you hear me?

If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright, yeah yeah

Everything is alright
If I just breathe, breathe
I've been drivin' for an hour
Just talkin' to the rain

I guess the song is meant to be interpreted as a couple that have had a fight. but there were a couple lines that really made sparks go off in my head, it was cool. i'm starting to think that there might be something more between my best guy friend and i. i've liked him for a while, and now he's giving me the signs, but i have yet to talk to him about it because i'm scared of what might happen. i love where it goes "well it's all so overrated, in not saying you feel. so you end up watching chances fade, and wondering what's real" and my favorite line in the song is "i wonder if you realize, i've been waiting till i see it in your eyes" i think it's so beautiful.

I honestly don't see this as much of a fight song, and much more as a forbidden (not so much unrequited) love.

I feel like she loves this guy, and he obviously has feelings for her as well, but for some reason they cannot be together. But, as we all know, that doesn't stop the sparks from happening. A couple of different lines are pointing me away from the fight theory and towards this:

I've been waiting for a chance to let you in - This suggests that they are not together, but she wants to be. (There are a couple other lines like this but I wont list them)

saying things we never meant to say - This says to me that whatever sparks are flying between her and this guy, they aren't supposed to say it. It may be true and they may both feel it, but it's somehow forbidden and therefore not a good idea to admit by talking about it.

This song says to me that she is trying so hard to either make this relationship work or make it stop, and having a rather difficult time of it. In the chorus, I do agree that she's kind of telling us how she's coping. But she isn't supposed to be with this guy for whatever reason, and is really wanting things to work out one way or another, but for now she's just stuck in limbo.

i think this song is about a couple fighting... maybe if they just "breathe" and calm down they can work things out...

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
