"The Cage" as written by and Ville Hermanni ...
A lifetime ago, with frozen eyes they closed the door
Suddenly I realized what locks are for
No trusting them anymore, lights are out

Empty the stare, innocent and unaware, dragged out from my home ,my lair.
Earmarked me, hurt me, burned me.

The walls around me, eyes surround me, feed my fear again
I must be freed or I will die before the harvest moon, my friend
I do not have another year in me, you've gotta set me free

The dream is alive, I can run up the hills every night
Go around and see another side of the tree
Freedom has a meaning for me, howl with me

Fear in the dark, I advice you
You can not see the eyes, they grow behind
you
It's my song they now sing to you
You stand no chance

They'll kill for me, steal back my freedom, set me free
It's my minions versus thee
Fiery the vengeance, hate will drain me

The walls around me, eyes surround me, feed my fear again
I must be freed or I will die before the harvest moon, my friend
I do not have another year in me, you've gotta set me free

The dream is alive, I can run up the hills every night
Go around and see another side of the tree
All I want is to be untamed and free, howl and dream

The dream is alive, with the moon on the hills every night
Run around and see another side of the dream
Freedom has a meaning for me, you can't tame me

You will remember the day you crossed my path
Leave me without a guard and you feel my wrath
What you have done to me has made me bitter and cruel
I'll see that all the hate you spread returns to you, you, to you

The walls around me, eyes surround me, feed my fear again
I must be freed or I will die before the harvest moon, my friend
I do not have another year in me, you've gotta set me free

The dream is alive, I can run up the hills every night
Go around and see another side of the tree
All I want is to be untamed and free, howl and dream

The dream is alive, with the moon on the hills every night
Run around and see another side of the dream
Freedom has a meaning for me, you can't tame me

The dream is alive, I can run up the hills every night
Go around and see another side of the tree
All I want is to be untamed and free, howl and dream

The dream is alive, with the moon on the hills every night
Run around and see another side of the dream
Freedom has a meaning for me

General CommentThis song is about wolves!
Or better, a wolf that has been caught by humans.

"Dragged out from my home, my lair
Earmarked me, hurt me, burned me"

They earmarked him and so on and now he sits in a cage.

"I must be freed or I will die..."

    These animals need their freedom.

"Freedom has a meaning for me, howl with me"

That sentence is clear, I think. And there it is also clear that the song's about wolves ;)

General CommentYou can interp this as an old norse myth. The myth is about the wolf Fenrir a child of loki. As the myth says, fenrir would by the one that would destroy assengard (the place where the norse gods lived). This would also mean the end of midgard (the place where the humans lived). So the gods took fenrir as a prisoner, but fenrir started to develop even more hate to the gods. At one day when ragnorak (the end of both worlds) is there fenrir will end the world of gods and humans.

General CommentThis song is definitely about wolves and how they are supposed to be free as opposed to being caged up. However, this can also be connected to slavery as the lyrics can symbolize a slave as a wolf.

Too lazy to go in depth but this is basically the premise of the song.

    General CommentThis is from an interview to Tony Kakko;

"The Cage" is a wolf story. A wolf is locked into a cage and you have to save it. There's a certain kind of "get free from the chains" side to this story. There's not always a deeper meaning to the lyrics, because if you start dealing with the bad things in the music, you can totally ruin the music.

General CommentI reckon the guy isn't too glad with his girl. It seems she won't let him be himself all that much, and it's killing him.

"What you have done to me has made me bitter and cruel"
This line would emphase that thought.

General Commentthe roots of the song could be from the norse myths of Fenir, like Munin says. the werewolf

the soul of the song, i feel though, could be of a prisoner who is finally escape from a nightmare that they were innocent from. they keep running, always looking to be untamed. they find out why they were hurt, and promise to get their revenge against who (or what) ever hurt them.

Just my interpretation, like it or leave
