Sit across from you, why are we even here?
There is no way to make up for the 20 years.
I love trying to make conversation when I could careless of what you're
doing,
what are you doing? And I know you never cared 'till now.
All my days go back to when you would scream.
And it froze me.
Guess the screaming runs in the family.
You look tired and run-down. Are you even excited to see your baby boy?
Put a razor to the skin 'till we don't resemble each other anymore.
Sit across from you, why are we even here?
There is no way to make up for the 20 years.
So now I see the tears welling up, finally you care I've waited all my life
for this.
It's always been over, it's always been over, it's always been over for us.
A single tear, a last resort for all who've never felt.
Sit across from you, why are we even here?
There is no way to make up for these 20 years.
If I could flip this table I'd stab you with every word that lied its way
out of your head.

General CommentThis seems to be about his mother or father, and how for twenty years they never wanted anything thing to do with him, and it is just too late. "guess the screaming runs in the family" is a creative line. very emotional song, i think the new stuff is great

General CommentThe song is good, shows how families acutaly are, not a fake image portraid in other make believe songs which we constantly hear and make people wish it was like that, but this is real, basically saying no ones perfect and ya people do fight ya people dont forgive, not alot of people are in with the hole forgive and forget crap

General Commenti agree with you slicemypaperwrists...the new cd appears to be more about his family and his personal life than any relationship related problems. this song is a perfect example...from what i can gather, it's about (like what lessontohighest said,) his family, and how obviously he was not doted on as a child...it seems that his family did not treat him very well as a child, and now that he's famous they are all over him(and i know you never cared until now), but he sees right through it...this song is basically a big "fuck you" to his family for trying to be fake and attempting to make ammends with him after he's accomplished something (there is no way to make up for these 20 years). i think it's interesting that most of the songs on You Come Before You seem to be about this and similar topics (family, etc) where as the other PTW cd's up to this point were about relationships and heartache. i think it's a very interesting step for the band to take and i salute them for their creativity.
