"Taylor" as written by and Jack Johnson....
They say Taylor was a good girl, never one to be late
Complain, express ideas in her brain
Working on the night shift, passing out the tickets
You're gonna have to pay her if you want to park here

Well mommy's little dancer is quite a little secret
Working on the streets now, never gonna keep it
It's quite an imposition and now she's only wishin'
That she would have listened to the words they said
Poor Taylor

She just wanders around, unaffected by,
The winter winds here, she'll pretend that
She's somewhere else, so far and clear
About two thousand miles, from here

Well Peter Patrick pitter patters on the window,
The sunny silhouette won't let him in
And poor old Pete's got nothing 'cause he's been falling
And somehow sunny knows just where he's been

He thinks that singin' on Sunday's gonna save his soul
Now that Saturday's gone
And sometimes he thinks that he's on his way,
But I can see, that his brake lights are on

He just wanders around, unaffected by,
The winter winds here, and he'll pretend that
He's somewhere else, so far and clear,
About two thousand miles from here

Such a tough enchilada, filled up with nada
Givin' what you gotta give to get a dollar bill
Used to be a limber chicken, times have been a ticking
Now she's finger lickin' to the man
With the money in his pocket, flying in his rocket
And only stopping by on his way to a better world

If Taylor finds a better world
Then Taylor's gonna run away

General CommentTaylor is a prostitute and Peter is a john. He's wandering around because his wife Sunny just locked him out of his house. The reason is Sunny like Taylor also knows where he's been. But I could be wrong.

General CommentI don't think that it could be anymore obvious what this song is about...It seems clear to me that Taylor is one who sells her innocence and that Peter Patrick is a man who indulges in these sexual services. Sunny “won’t let him in” because she “knows, just where he's been.” Or for those of us who can’t rub both of our brain cells together; she knows he has been cheating and so she metaphorically won’t “let him in”, or in other words she is mad at him. When Jack states that “he thinks that singing on sunday 'gonna save his soul, now that Saturday’s gone,” he is making a Christian reference in that if Peter goes to church on Sunday it won’t make up for his indulgences of the previous evening. A “better world” is simply a privileged life; the man stops by (for sex) and then goes home to his “better world.”

General CommentI think the rest of you are right about the prostitution thing. About the "2000 miles" part: Jack Johnson went to college at UCSB, and hawaii is a little over 2000 miles from california. The characters in this song are dreaming of a peacful, tropical life in hawaii (where Jack grew up) far away from the turmoil of the city streets.

General CommentI always thought that the song was talking about a prostitute or a stripper: just a girl who didn't know what she was getting into when she left home, and now she's stuck.
I'm kind of confused on the "Peter Patrick" part; does anyone have any ideas? I've just been taking it as a guy who is just drifting through life, not really going anywhere, and like Taylor, he dreams that he's far away.

General CommentI always thought that Peter Patrick was just a man who is drinking, doing drugs, maybe he is a john, but anyway, I think Sunny's silhouette means that he's trying to get into the light of life, but singing on Sunday is not going to save his soul.

    Maybe I'm just too analytical.
