"Blue In The Face" as written by and Derek R Grant Daniel Michael Andriano....
It's about time that I came clean with you
I'm no longer fine, I'm no longer running smooth
I thought that I'd found myself onto something new
Just one more line I repeat over and over again

'Til I'm blue in the face with a choking regret
As I talk in circles 'round you on my bed
Can't say I blamed you one bit when you kept it all inside
When you left that night

It's about time that you got sick of me
No longer fun and so far from interesting
I thought that I found me a cure for feeling old
Just one more line to keep me sleeping loudly and cold

In disgrace with a shameful regret
As I speak in tongues to myself in my bed
Can't say I blamed you one bit when you kept it all inside
When you left that night

And all that followed fell like mercury to hell
Somehow we lost our heads for the last time
And all that followed fell like mercury to hell
Somehow we lost our heads for the last time

And I don't dream since I quit sleeping
No I haven't slept since I met you

And you can't breathe without coughing at daytime
Neither can I so what do you say?
Your coffin or mine?

General Commentdoes anyone else take the line " so what do you say?/ your coffin or mine?" in a more of a humorous way? kind of like he's saying after they die, do you want to 'hook up' in your coffin or mine....?

General Commentthis song is about how he is struggling through a relationship because he is on drugs hence the "you coffin or mine". and it is that she is going to leave him if he doesn't stop. and i think she might have been into drugs but she quit and he didn't

General Commentthere are no lyrics that are more meaningful than those words or phrases that have significance on two or more interpretations to the writer. I think there is a distinct possibility there are two or more signifcant personal references to matt here in this song. if you know anything about him you understand the volatile nature of his life especially in his personal relationships and "substance" usage. In my opinion there is a strong case that his reference to "like mercury to hell" has two meanings as well. Mercury, the planet, falling in gravity or being consumed by the Sun, aka, Hell to a vampire. There is a reference to vampires all over this song. Also, it can be as simple as the mercury in a thermometer falling in hell because as we all know that in other songs Hell is, in fact, a cold place for now.

General CommentGeebus, can't believe only 2 people have posted here...this song is one of the best all-time alkaline trio songs, methinks. I'm a big acoustic fan, and matt sounds like he wrote this song the second after he got his ass kicked in the relationship department. I can relate...I just don't react so poetically...matt skiba is a genius...so is dan..but that's not the point...anywho alkaline trio owns

General CommentThis song is so about doing coke to cope with the end of a relationship.
It's about time that I came clean with you - coming clean
Just one more line I repeat over and over again - itll only be one more time
I thought that I found me a cure for feeling old
    - supressing anxiety..
    its all there.

General Commentyes, that's what i thought, that it was about doing drugs (probably coke) to cope with a failing relationship. and yes, rockfish, alk3 are geniuses, and most ppl have had theri ass handed to them in a relationship, but mine cheated on me w/ 5 guys. beat that
