"Old School Reasons" as written by and Matt Skiba Derek Grant....
I got these thoughts in my head
Dirty as fuckin' and never leavin'
And then best left unsaid
All the drinks under breath

Got some shit off my chest
Put on my back next to the monkey nest
That somebody left
With me the day I was born

I got a hole in my head
The size of lake fuckin' Michigan
My pipes lined in lead
Got old school reasons to die

All my money's been spent
On a face lift with via alcohol
This sinner repents
To an empty bathroom reflection

Please take these two words
And do with them what you would like
It's a dream I had, drove me mad
Just your time, just my fucking life

I got a bottle in hand
Straight to the ground with all my memories
It's best left unsaid
When they've all been left behind

All my money's been spent
On a D.I.Y. lobotomy
This sinner repents
To a lake and bathroom mirror

Please take these two words
And do with them what you would like
It's a dream I had, drove me mad
Just your time, just my fucking life

So take these two words
And do with them what you would like
It's a dream you had, drove me mad
Just your time, just my fucking life

And that's my life
Over and over again
It's just my fucking life

It might seem meaningless to you
But it means everything to me
And I'm fucked without you

Please take these words
And do with them what you would like
It's a dream I had, drove me mad
Just your time, just my fucking life

And that's my life
Over and over again
It's just my fucking life

General CommentSomeone else told me a (in my opinion) better reason, why Matt could sing that:

"Well they come from Chicago and that's next to lake michigan, so it's no wonder why he refers to it in his lyrics!"

    Very interesting...;)

General CommentThe naysayers who say this song is the worst Trio song ever are sadly mislead, that title goes to "Snake Oil Tanker"

This song is unbelievably good. Great dual leads by Matt and Dan, great lyrics and drumming by Derek Grant as always ties it all in. This is the ultimate Fuck the World song

General CommentWhat's all this "lake mishigan"-thing about? Matt's singing that in "This Could Be Love", too...

General Commentmy asusmption is that "a lake michigan" is something or someone you pride, r hold very close to you, appreciate immensley, etc. i get this more from the braid song "lining lake michigan" though, a song about losing someone that says something like.. "Now I'm screaming because I can't talk to you... What was once my lake michigan is now a dismal hole" There ya go, maybe.

General CommentYes. He lived by Lake Michigan when he was in Chicago. Like in the verson of 'This Could Be Love" he sings about a bunch of bodies of water by where he used to live, like a creek, Berkley Marina, and Lake Michigan. Anyways, it's just that he used to live by Lake Michigan.

General Comment"got a whole in my head the size of lake fuckin michigan my pipes lined in lead, got old school reasons to die"

the whole in the head refers to having shot yourself, and his pipe is lined in led, proable a marijuana pipe, lined in lead

this whole song is pretty much him going insane and dreaming of killing himself, but just drinking instead
