It was so cold in hell
I remember it well
It was so cold that year
It was colder than hell

Things haven't been good
So you leave for a while
I was off on a tour
I hadn't heard

Eve dropped in
with the letter he wrote
and I read it aloud
to prove that I could

the neighbor boys laughing
cause you know anwar
we never thought
quite enough good

we thought that we knew you
and I guess that we don't
in heaven no more
to repeat the past

we called you the black pen
remember that?

The sea is wide
The streets are long
And there's blood on all our hands
And the cat is gone

And only what's left to us
Is history built on dust
There was sweat on a cold source
Of missions and governments

Supplies and victories
Good girl and king to please
The still keys are everywhere
In a thousand yard stare

We all end up the same
Like little lambs to meet their end

Song MeaningI've listened to this song way too many times and as far as I can tell it seems to be about someone from her youth who committed suicide. April 10th must have been the day this person died or the day she heard about it. This person must have been a friend she didn't see regularly anymore, but may have during her youth or maybe someone she used to work with. She had heard through friends that his/her life had been going downhill but I think she regrets that she wasn't around to help them. She realized that she should have done something when they received the suicide letter. "And you've dropped in with the letter you wrote and I read it aloud to prove that I could" She has a hard time reading the letter because of the emotion involved and she couldn't believe that they had actually killed them self. The next few lines seem so be about maybe people at a wake reminiscing or among friends. "And there's blood on all our hands with the catalyst gone" She seems to be blaming herself and others for doing nothing because now its too late to do anything. "And only what's left to us is history built on dust I'm sweating on poet's words" Seems to be talking about the dust spread on a casket at a funeral and the sweating on poet's words part is probably speaking of a eulogy she gave using something the dead friend had written. The rest of the song seems to be about the depression after a death and the realization that we will all die at some point like little lambs to meet their end.

I truly love this song and it touches me every time I hear it.

General CommentI've never heard of this song before... is this a b-side that I missed, or are they making a new album? *crosses fingers*

General CommentOoh. I just downloaded it, and this is one of the BEST fucking songs I've ever heard. I have no idea what it means... although it seems like each line, stanza, whatever is referring to some person or some incident from her past.

General Commentobviously i dont know for sure what it means but to me it sounds like the death of a loved one (spouce perhaps?) and even possibly a suicide (because he wrote a letter first)

General CommentIt was april the tenth
    I remember it well
It was so cold that year
    It was colder than hell

    Tthings haven't been good
    For you, for a while
    Because I'd been on tour
    I hadn't heard

    And you've dropped in
    With the letter you wrote
    And i read it aloud
    To prove that I could

    And we were both laughing
Cause we know how you are
    We never thought
    Your quitting was good

We thought that we knew you
And I guess that we don't
    Are you heavenly or
    Just like the past?

We called you "the black penny"
    Remember that?

    The sea is wide
    The streets are long
And there's blood on all our hands
    With the catalyst gone

And only what's left to us
    Is history built on dust
I was sweating on poet's words
    Great nations and governments

    Sweet lies and victories
    Eager and keen to please
    Those good keys are everywhere
    With their thousand-yard stare

We all end up the same
Like little lambs to meet their end

General CommentMy thoughts are that this song is about someone who killed his/herself on april 10...and this is sort of reminiscing.
