"Love Boat Captain" as written by and Kenneth Gaspar Eddie Vedder....
Is this just another day, this God forgotten place?
First comes love, then comes pain. Let the games begin,
Questions rise and answers fall, insurmountable.

Love boat captain
Take the reigns and steer us towards the clear, here.
It's already been sung, but it can't be said enough.
All you need is love

Is this just another phase? earthquakes making waves,
Trying to shake the cancer off? stupid human beings,
Once you hold the hand of love, it's all surmountable.

Hold me, and make it the truth,
That when all is lost there will be you,
Cause to the universe I don't mean a thing
And there's just one word I still believe
And it's

It's an art to live with pain, mix the light into grey,
Lost nine friends we'll never know, two years ago today
And if our lives became too long, would it add to our regret?

And the young, they can lose hope cause they can't see beyond today,
The wisdom that the old can't give away
Hey,
Constant recoil
Sometimes life
Don't leave you alone.

Hold me, and make it the truth,
That when all is lost there will be you.
Cause to the universe I don't mean a thing
And there's just one word that I still believe and it's
Love, love. Love. Love. Love.

Love boat captain
Take the reigns, steer us towards the clear.
I know it's already been sung, can't be said enough.
Love is all you need, all you need is love,
Love, love,
Love.

and if our lives became too long, would it add to our regret?"

Those lines probably refer to the Roskilde incident, in which 9 people were crushed when the crowd rushed towards the stage while Pearl Jam was performing. Eddie actually fell to his knees and cried when he saw what had happened...

General CommentThis song, I think, was most likely written as a tribute to the 9 people trampled to death in a stage rush at the Roskilde music festival in Denmark on the last day of the European leg of the 2000 Binaural Tour. "Lost 9 friends we'll never know two years ago today." It is also about receiving guidance or direction towards a positive lifestyle from a higher power, I think. Very powerful song, probably the best on "Riot Act."

General Commentthe song has definite intense meaning, but people, without the underlying thoughts, the song is still unbelievable. Riot Act is the most under rated album ever and so is this song under rated. People, will you please listen!

General Commentmy favourite song off Riot Act, LBC refers to the nine PJ fans killed in the Roskilde incident.
Obviously an emotional moment for eddie and the band if they choose to write a song about it and include it in the album. the song also touches on the ignorance of the young people of today, when compared to the older generation who have life experience under their belt. (and tyhe young they can lose hope cos they cant see beyond today/ the wisdom that the old cant give away)

all in all LBC tells that, no matter what happens in the world or what state the world is in, love will inevitably conquer all.

(NB: Pearl Jam Australian Tour was absolutely insane)

General CommentWhen your ego has been destroyed and everything you thought was important is no longer so, you should follow love to get back to reality and a stable existence. See J Campbell and the hero's journey. Being a cause of 9 deaths sure takes your ego down a notch, possibly all the way down.

General CommentAt First, i thought it was just another song about love...but this kinda threw me off

"lost nine friends we'll never know, two years ago today
and if our lives became too long, would it add to our regret?"

General CommentTeibest, I have to disagree with you. I love Pearl Jam, but there are some very dodgy songs on Riot Act. The beginning and the end are pretty good, but the songs in the middle are...not up to scratch for a band we know can do such great stuff.

General CommentRiot act seems like an album that very gradually becomes awesome the more you listen to it, i have not got to this stage yet, however, this song is instantly wonderful in every way.
