"Halfway to the Bottom" as written by and Matthew Nicholas/hales Hales....
You're either dipping your toe, or you're drowning.
You're either dipping your toe, or you're drowning.
Is it better never to start than to
End the pain of having to start
Of having to start

Halfway to the bottom
It's to be forgotten

I never thought it would come so easy
I never thought it would go so quickly
Is it never never to love than to
Risk your heart having to lose?
Having to lose.

Halfway to the bottom
It's to be forgotten
Halfway to the bottom
It's to be forgotten

I don't know which to grow.

Is it wiser never to speak than to
Risk your voice and never be heard?
Never be heard.
Never be heard.

General Commenti'm not really sure what this song means.. but i do liek the first line about either dipping your toe, or you're drowning.
I guess that means that she is either too scared to try, or tried too hard and is "drowing"
i'm not really sure what that means, but i like the similie.. i think?

i think the whole thing is just about being scared to try something. Contemplating whether its wiser to stay silent or risk raising your voice only not to be heard. I've had that thought before.

I think it's about being scared and afraid to love someone.

General CommentThis song is about a guy that is trying to figure out whether it is better to love and get heartbroken or to never love at all.
    Beautifully written.

My InterpretationI think this song is all about being afraid to be in a relationship.
The person has been hurt too many times and there is so much standing in the way.

"You're either dipping your toe, or you're drowning.
You're either dipping your toe, or you're drowning."

To me, these lines symoblize that the person is either just searching but not going to far, limiting themselves relationship wise or they are throwing themselves and committing their entire being to a relationship. It's either extreme instead of being the middle path.

"Is it better never to start than to
end the pain of having to start
    Of having to start"
"Is it never never to love than to
risk your heart having to lose?
    Having to lose."
"Is it wiser never to speak than to
risk your voice and never be heard?"

Each of these lines I think refers to being afraid to get into any relationship because the rest just end up in pain and disaster. Should you go any further and risk yourself?

    "Halfway to the bottom
    It's to be forgotten"
"I never thought it would come so easy
I never thought it would go so quickly"

And these lines carry a personal note for me. (I usually listen to my songs and play out a story, fictional or not, in my head to them.) As a personal story to this song I see these lines refering to a crush and that there's been so much heartache and failing in relationships. It's almost drug the person to their lowest and they feel they'll just be forgotten by the way the other people seem not to care. Also, they never thought liking another person, once again, would be so easy but never thought the feelings and the possibility of having a relationship with that person would be destroyed so quickly.
