"Papa" as written by and Vanessa Carlton....
Look up, look where you want to be
Look left, look where you left me

I should have known by the ice in his eye
But you warmed me up with your so sweet demise
Nestled in your calculated moon shine

Boy you give good,
Love, plastic love, you're a genuine wannabe
And you got it all up your blue sleeve, your sleeve
Love, plastic love, you're a genuine wannabe
And you got it all up your blue sleeve, but me

Papa oh Papa tonight, Papa oh ill be alright

Look left, look where you want to be
Look up, look where you left me

I should have known by the ice in his eye
But you warmed me with your so sweet demise
Nestled in your calculated moon shine

Boy you give good,
Love, plastic love, you're a genuine wannabe
And you got it all up your blue sleeve, you're sleeve
Love, plastic love, you're a genuine wannabe
And you got it all up your blue sleeve..but me

Papa oh Papa tonight, Papa oh ill be alright

    General Commentit's really>

    Look up,
    look where you wanna be
    look left,
    look where you left me

I shoulda known by the ice in your eyes
but you warmed me up with your 'so sweet' demise
and nestled in your calculated motions,
    boy you give good-

    love, plastic love
    you're a genuine wannabe
and you got it all up your blue sleeve, your sleeve.
    love, plastic love
    you're a genuine wannabe
and you got it all up your blue sleeve, but me-

    Ohhh, Papa oh Papa, tonight
    Papa oh I'll be alright...
    Look up,
    look where you wanna be
    look left,
    look where you left me

I shoulda known by the ice in your eyes
but you warmed me up with your 'so sweet' demise
and nestled in your calculated motions,
    boy you give good-

    love, plastic love
    you're a genuine wannabe
and you got it all up your blue sleeve, your sleeve.
    love, plastic love
    you're a genuine wannabe
and you got it all up your blue sleeve, but me-

    Ohhh, Papa oh Papa, tonight
    Papa oh I'll be alright...

General CommentVanessa said in a concert in '02/'03 on november 11th that the song isn't about her dad, so it must be a father like figure or some nuturing part of life.
Blue sleeves. Blue usually conveys tranquility and peace so a sense of security I think. :) Papa = security.

General Commentyeah...the second lyrics seem right...LOVE THIS SONG! i think its about fake love....just using someone for their "pretty face"...i think its also about being lost..."look where you wanna be", "look were you left me"...and i guess that the "papa" part is about her father? i mean...father's are overprotective...so thats really all i understand about it...lol..its realy good though! i'm listening to "Harmonium" right now! its AWESOME! :)

General CommentI think it's about someone who puts on this fake personality, and pretends that they're in love, but in reality, they weren't serious about any of it.

When you think "plastic," you think fake or not-real, and that's exactly what this love is.

"Look up, look where you wanna be." The guy "looking up" is actually dreaming of what he wants his life to be like, and he just pushed her to the side, and left her.

The guy in this song is a jerk.

General CommentSorry, but when she says,
    "Look left,
    Look where you wanna be.
    Look left,
    Look where you left me."

I think that's her being released from feeling sad and upset over what he did to her. "Up" is where he wanted to be, in the first verse, but now, it's reversed. Now he wants to be "left," but now she's up. It sounds to me like he's wanting to go back to where they were, but now she's "up," and doesn't need him anymore.

General CommentI've barely ever heard Vanessa Carlton actually seem really mad. Obviously someone pretended to love her, and then ditched her after a while. But honestly, I have no clue what the 'papa' part means.

General Commenti think the 'papa' part means is her dad caring about what the guy did to her, and now she's telling her dad she'll be ok.

General CommentIt's actually "nestled in your calculated moonshine" moonshine meaning like nonsense or bullshit

I like how mulizah described the part "look up, look where you wanna be..." and how they said that it reverses like first she was left but now shes up because she doesnt need the guy anymore...

I think this song was about someone using her and that someone being a fake person. They made veryone believe they were a certain person by saying/doing certain things but thats not really who they were and they used her to get where they wanted or whatever but it didnt end up working because shes the one that finally saw through all the bullshit
