"Si El Norte Fuera El Sur" as written by and Ricardo Arjona....
Cortáselo a tu marido y ganarás reputación

General CommentThis is a rough translation:

The north, it's mcdonalds, basketball and rock&roll
    it's topless it's madonas and stallone's abdomen
    tanning intellectuals, supermarket scholars
they have everything but have paid nothing

    With 18 you're a kid for a drink in a bar
but you're a full man for war and murder
hurray for vietnam and hurray for forrest gump
hurray for wall street and hurray for donald trump
    hurray for the 7-11

They dust their noses and carry siringes in their pockets
They travel with marijuana to understand the situation
of this judge of the planet which sends an invitation
cut it off to your husband and you'll gain a reputation

    Chorus:

Stars and stripes take ahold of my flag
and our freedom is nothing more than a whore
and if the outside debt stole our freedom
to hell with geography, no more frontiers

If the north was the south the sioux would be the margined
being brown and short would be the most attractive look
Marcos would be the mexican rambo
and cyndy crawford the menchú of my friends
    reagan would be Somoza

Fidel would be an athlete running stocks in wall street
and the che would do double meat burgers
    yankees of illegals to tijuana
and the boats from miami to habana
if the north was the south

We'd be the same or perhaps a little worse
    with the maldines by greenland
    and a disneyland in Guatemala
and a Simon Bolivar breaking his secret
Here goes prop. 187, out go the yankees by decree

    Chrous 2x

If the north was the south, it would be the same crap
i'd sing some rap and this song wouldn't exist.

General CommentIt's talking about what would happen if latino america was North america. It's kinda funny. He says how americans would go illegal to mexico and how there would be a disneyland in Guatemala. But at the end he says things would be the same,or maybe even worse. Good song.

General CommentAlthough I believe everyones comments are valid. I believe Arjona had a deeper meaning in this song. How many of us spend day in and day out wishing for a better life? We as humans tend to always believe the grass is greener on the other side. Well, Arjona puts everything into perspective here. He states that if the North became the South we would be running around in circles.

General CommentI hate Che Guevara, after his death he is still bringing war and revolution to my continent. I also hate Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales. Fuck you, damn communists. Viva América sin subversión!
