"Mein Herz Brennt" as written by Richard Z. Kruspe, Paul Landers, Till Lindemann, Doktor Christian Lorenz, Oliver Riedel and Christoph Doom Schneider....
Nun liebe Kinder gebt fein acht
Ich bin die Stimme aus dem Kissen
Ich hab euch etwas mitgebracht
Hab es aus meiner Brust gerissen
Mit diesem Herz hab ich die Macht
Die Augenlider zu erpressen
Ich singe bis der Tag erwacht
Ein heller Schein am Firmament

Mein Herz brennt

Sie kommen zu euch in der Nacht
Dämonen Geister schwarze Feen
Sie kriechen aus dem Kellerschacht
Und werden unter euer Bettzeug sehen

Nun liebe Kinder gebt fein acht
Ich bin die Stimme aus dem Kissen
Ich hab euch etwas mitgebracht
Ein heller Schein am Firmament

Mein Herz brennt
Mein Herz brennt

Sie kommen zu euch in der Nacht
Und stehlen eure kleinen heißen Tränen
Sie warten bis der Mond erwacht
Und drücken sie in meine kalten Venen

Nun liebe Kinder gebt fein acht
Ich bin die Stimme aus dem Kissen
Ich singe bis der Tag erwacht
Ein heller Schein am Firmament

Mein Herz brennt
Mein Herz brennt
Mein Herz brennt
Mein Herz brennt

Mein Herz brennt
Mein Herz brennt
Mein Herz brennt

(Mein Herz)

Mein Herz brennt

My InterpretationHi. I would just like to weigh in with what this song means to me.
It is most likely not what Rammstein originally intended, but this song has a very specific meaning for me.

To me the song is about the theft of male emotions. The first two paragraphs are him reflecting on his childhood, as the people around him pretty much desensitised him to the world. The ripping out of the heart is a metaphore for his apparent inability to show emotion. They ripped his heart out at an early age to harden him. His disembodied heart gives him the power to suppress his eyelids. Literally to prevent his own tears.
And he has to wait until the day he is so overcome with sadness for the right to shout that his heart is burning.

The first verse talks about demons and other foul creatures coming to him in the night. This could mean two things. One, it could be the evil people (demons) coming to him when he is most vulnerable to remove his heart. Two, it could be that his pent up emotions come to him in the night and try to break him. They creep out of the celler. As in the celler of his mind where he puts all his sadness. The bedding and pillow is a metaphor for his natural emotional being, which is still there. This voice is coming to the children from the pillow, a soft, comforting object. But the demons are coming to look under his bedding.

The second verse is quite simple. They come to you when you are vulnerable, and take away your tears.
Now that he is cold to the world, he perpetuates what has happened to him. He takes the tears away to warm his own cold veins. It's basically like any form of abuse, if you were abused you are more likely to comit abuse.

Basically, this is my interpretation of the song. To me the words fit perfectly to how I feel sometimes. Like all I want to do is cry but I can't.

General CommentI always thought it was an allegory for child abuse. As in:

I'm confused. My heart burns, and my mind tries to make sense of what has happened to me--as I dream.

This man sure looks like my father.
But he can't BE my father.
May father would never do this. This being must have done something equally horrible to my father, or possessed his body.

Else my father would intervene and save me. For my father would never allow anyone else to do this either.

My heart burns. My (view of the) world is shattered.

It might even be sexual abuse that actually occurs at night.

    But I don't know.

Translation is good, but I would translate "cushion" as pillow. This is about children's nightmares at any rate, whether or not I'm full of dritt myself. :-D

General CommentWell, from taking German 1, I know that "mien herz brennt" means "my heart burns". That's pretty self explanitory.

General CommentPart of this song is actually taken from a children's show called Das Sandmännchen (The Little Sandman). Das Sandmännchen (The Little Sandman) is a TV show from Germany that started in the mid-1950s. Every night the show would come on and the das Sandmännchen would tell bedtime stories. Each show started out with "Nun, liebe Kinder, gebt fein Acht. Ich habe euch etwas mitgebracht" ("Now, dear children, pay attention. I have brought something for you"). This should sound similar already.

The working title for "Mein Herz brennt" was actually "Sandmann" ("Sandman"). Basically das Sandmännchen was nice and good, but the subject of the song that Till has dreamed up is quite the opposite. In fact, he was even worse in a previous incarnation of the song played at the Fanabend concert in April 2000 at the Knaack Klub, Berlin. In the old version, a man has killed the real sandman and stolen his hair to look like him. He shows up for the children instead of who they were expecting.

Nun liebe Kinder gebt fein Acht
Ich bin die Stimme aus dem Kissen
    Ich hab euch Haare mitgebracht
    Hab sie dem Sandmann abgebissen

Ich trag es, weil ihr böse wart
Ich hab ihm Haar mit Haut geraubt
    Biss ab den blutverschmierten Bart
Und warf ihn auf mein kahles Haupt

    Now, dear children, pay attention
I am the voice from the pillow
I have brought hair for you
I bit them it off of the sandman

I wear it, because you were bad
I robbed him of hair with skin
I bit off the bloodsmeared beard
and tossed it on my bald head.

General CommentI ran out of space or something. Anyway, those final lyrics are from the original version, the hard copy of which was stolen (99% sure on this). Taken from herzeleid.com
