Carry me, caravan, take me away.
Take me to Portugal, take me to Spain.
Andalusia with fields full of grain.
I have to see you again and again.

Take me, Spanish caravan.
Yes I know you can.

Trade winds find galleons lost in the sea.
I know where treasure is waiting for me.
Silver and gold in the mountains of Spain
I have to see you again and again.

Take me, Spanish caravan.
Yes I know you can.

General CommentFirst off to those of you who think this song is about drugs.. that is rediculous. The Doors are known to have redone classical songs (Alabama song was from Morrison's favorite musical). And to further dismiss any ideas about this being about drugs, The Doors didnt do any hard drugs other than acid and the occasional coke, no heroin and meth wasnt really around back then... besides this song was made for the Waiting for the Sun album, and that is at the end of their career, which is when Morrison dived into alcohol, not drugs... dont just assume shit like that

General CommentIt's about searching for happiness. In space, time, people, yourself or Spain...
It's a common belief that doors' lyrics don't have much meaning and that if they do they are mostly about sex drugs alcohol and hippie stuff. This is mainly the fault of the fans (because the doors are widely spread with a large auditorium) but even if the doors members didn't (don't) know the meaning of their lyrics and wrote songs just to sell (yeah right) or why they were high or what ever I still am able to give them a meaning (not to all of course). Reading all the doors comments here made me sad...

General CommentI agree with those who say that there is no really deep meaning or allusion to any governing symbology, unlike something like "Not to Touch the Earth" or "The End", where it is possible to demonstrate reference to existing symbolic forms.

That said, it is a great example of the visually, viscerally evocative effect of some of some of their lyrics.

I used to spend a lot of time on the beach in California. Not so much the populated beaches in S Cal, but more like the isolated ones from Santa Barbara north. If you maybe smoked some--or drank some wine--and heard this song in your head, with the sound of the waves in the background, you could *see* a Manila galleon, on the new route back to Acapulco (that was the run: out from Acapulco with gold, back from Manila with trade goods), running with the NW wind that blows along the coast--maybe worried by the fog as you near Point Conception--the end of a long voyage becoming more real to you, thinking about home...

I think that when they were at their best, they were very thoughtful lyricists--both Morrison and Krieger. Very fine stuff to be on commercial radio...but perhaps a case of pearls before swine.

General CommentAbsolutely a great song, taken from the song Asturias by classical guitarist Isaac Albeniz (check it out) - Not really sure on a meaning of this one probably drug related
