"Sanctified" as written by and Michael Reznor....
It's still getting worse after everything I tried
What if I found a way to wash it all aside
What if she touches with those fingertips
As the words spill out like fire from her lips

If she says come inside I'll come inside for her
If she says give it all I'll give everything to her
I am justified
I am purified
I am sanctified

Inside you
Heaven's just a rumor she'll dispel.
As she walks me through the nicest parts of hell.
I still dream of lips I never should have never kissed
Well she knows exactly what I can't resist

If she says come inside I'll come inside for her
If she says give it all I'll give everything to her
I am justified
I am purified
I am sanctified

Inside you
I'm still caught up in another of her spells
Well she's turning me into someone else
Everyday I hope and pray this will end
But when I can I do it all again

And if she says come inside I'll come inside for her
If she says give it all I'll give everything to her
I am justified
I am purified
I am sanctified
Inside you

I am justified
I am purified
I am sanctified
Inside you

General CommentIt's about a girl who has control over him to the point where he would willingly do anything for her. However he kind of wishes that she didn't have so much control over him, but he can't tell her "no".He also knows that the relationship will eventually "run it's coarse", and he waits to see if it makes him feel free again.

I could be way off, but that's what I feel when I hear it.

General CommentThis means more than just a girl or cocaine.. Yeah, he wrote it with cocaine in mind or so I've heard from sources, but really.. Whenever you write a song, it usually applies to so many different things. So, when I look at this, I look at it as -my- addiction. Which, is what a lot of people do. I think it's addiction in general. Being so attatched to something that when the time comes to do it again, you won't say no. But.. Let me break down every single line for you! I have some time to waste.

"it's still getting worse after everything i tried.
(I can't stop. I've tried to but I need it more when I try.)
what if i found a way to wash it all aside.
(Is there a way to stop it? Can I get unaddicted?)
what if she touches with those fingertips.
(But, if I'm near it, if I touch it, will I do it anyways?)
as the words spill out like fire from her lips.
(She tells me it will be ok if I do it just once more.)

Chorus: if she says come inside i'll come inside for her.
(If I can do it, I will. Duh.)
if she says five it all i'll give everything to her.
(I will sacrifice everything just to do it.)
    i am justified.
(He's trying to tell himself it's ok.)
    i am purified.
(He's feeling better after he does it.)
    i am sanctified.
    (He feels at peace.)
    inside you

    Heaven's just a rumor she'll dispel.
(It's a sin to do it, but he doesn't care when he does do it.)
as she walks me through the nicest parts of hell.
(The addiction is taking him to hell.)
i still dream of lips i never should have never kissed.
(He should have never done it, but he still wants to.)
well she knows exactly what i can't resist
(And.. again, he can't resist it.)

    Chorus

i'm just caught up in another of her spells.
("She" makes it seem all right so he keeps doing it.)
she's turning me into someone else.
    (The addiction is changing him.)
everyday i hope and pray this will end.
    (he wants it to stop...)
but when i can i do it all again
(But, he doesn't have the willpower.)

    Chorus

as surely as the blades course is run.
(I interpret this as death.. As soon as he dies.)
    maybe my kingdom's finally come
(Then, maybe he'll finally escape it.)

My InterpretationI'm surprised nobody has brought up religion. This whole album feels like a chant against unhealthy religion to me. This song in particular is called "Sanctified", a word I'm not sure I've even heard outside of church. Anyway, this song reminds me of the way I felt when I was deep in a cultish church. The girl could be a personification of the demands of unhealthy religion. They demand that you give your whole life for "her" and control everything you do. But, with the promise of heaven, you'll do anything for "her" and you're "justified". Anyway, just my two cents.

General CommentI thought danz0r was full of shit, but you can hear someone clearly speaking in the background. It's not to clear, but you can hear "Dear Mom, Dad, this is the hardest part... I'm sorry" That's all I can make out. And the I'm Sorry part is near the end before the 3rd verse. It may be about cocaine, but it works for the relationship aspect too, which is what I believe it's about.

General CommentPersonally I go with the cocaine theory...

"i'm just caught up in another of her spells.
she's turning me into someone else.
everyday i hope and pray this will end.
but when i can i do it all again"

definatly something that a cocaine addict would feel like... seems a bit stronger then venting at an ex, because after your done with an ex you usually don't think that your gonna run right back to them like you do with drugs. Just my opinion.

General CommentEver seen the movie, Hellraiser 2: Hellbound? I just watched that and the "she(in this song)==Julia" theory is just too tempting to pass up right now.
