"Te Doy Una Canción" as written by and Silvio Rodriguez Dominguez....
Aunque nadie me ve nunca contigo

Y si no no apareces
No me importa
Yo te doy una canción

Si miro un poco afuera me detengo
La ciudad se derrumba
Y yo cantando

Y digo patria
Y sigo hablando para ti
Te doy una canción
Como un disparo
Como un libro
Una palabra
Una guerrilla
Como doy el amor

General CommentAs he often does, Silvio Rodriguez connects his feelings for someone--a lover it seems, although that is almost irrelevant--with the act of writing and making music.
The song is packed with commentary about the act of making art. With his songs he remembers and continues a connection with that absent person. At first he´s asking her to appear through the songs he writes about her. Then he he takes a moment, looks around and starts thinking about society as a whole, "la ciudad se derrumba y yo cantando". From One of the wonderful things about Silvio is his ability to turn a love song into social copmmentary. This happens explicitely in this song as he says that through this love song he can also make a speech about his right to speak, say "patria", and that his hands make songs but can also kill. A song can be everything from a declaration of love to "un disparo, un libro, una palabra, una guerrilla".
This is one of the best written songs I´ve ever encountered.
