"Long Long Way To Go" as written by Wayne Anthony Hector and Stephen Paul Robson....
You held my hand and then you slipped away
And I may never see your face again
So tell me how to fill the emptiness inside
Without love, what is life?
And anyone who knew us both can see
We always were the better part of me
I never wanted to be this free
And all this pain, when does it go away?

Then every time I turn around
And you're nowhere to be found
I know

I gotta long long way to go
Before I can say goodbye to you
Oh, I gotta long long way I know
Before I can say goodbye
To all I ever knew, to you
To you

From memory there is no hiding place
Turn on the TV and I see you there
In every crowd there's always someone with your face
Everywhere, trying not to care

Then every time I turn around
And you're nowhere to be found
I know

I gotta long long way to go
Before I can say goodbye to you
I gotta long long way I know
Before I can say goodbye
To all I ever knew

To you I wish you everything
And all the best that life can bring
I only hope you think of me sometimes
Oh, and even though I feel the pain
I know that I will love again
The time will come
Oh, and I'll move on

I gotta long long way to go
Before I can say goodbye to you
Oh, I gotta long long way I know
Gotta long way to go
Before I can say goodbye
Before I say goodbye
To all I ever knew
To all I ever knew
I gotta long way to go
Before I say
Say goodbye, say goodbye
But I wish you the best girl
Oh and all of the rest to you

General CommentWhat do you mean it's not one of there best. This song absolutely goes off. Musically it is so moving and the way they move from verse into chorus is superb. If you haven't heard this song go out and buy the album. It's worth it just for this song

General CommentThis is the only Def Leppard song I've ever heard, but it sticks in my mind very well... I love the meaning behind it.

Its about a guy who's recently broke up with his girlfriend whom he loves, and he can't get over her. He believes that she made him a better person, and that when she was around he changed. The phrases 'long long way to go until I can say goodbye' is not meaning actuall distance, but he's saying that it'll be a while until his heart will let her go. Everywhere he goes things are reminding him of her, from people on the streets to TV shows that have some connection to the girl.

I'm sure everyone knows what its like to be forced into a breakup and to have not gotten over the person for a while. How it feels like your soul isnt home, and you're just drifting through the world until something happens to pull you out of it.

The last few lines are what he's acting like to everyone else, telling her that he wants her to be happy even if its not with him. He says not to worry about him, because over time he'll get over her and when that happens he'll date someone else and he'll be complete again. But then the chorus pops in, saying that he really isn't over her at all, and he's still having big troubles moving on.

General CommentI love this tune. Not the best Def Leppard song, but a great one nonetheless. The best line of song hands down, is "Anyone who knew us both can see, we always were the better part of me."

That's outstanding and it sums up what the song is all about. He basically feels lost without her and felt he was at his best when he was with her, or in other words, she brought out the best in him.

    Golden.

I had a girlfriend who I truly believe filled that tired cliche of being my better half. She made me a better person in a number of ways and when we broke up, it left me with a huge void. These lyrics suit me plenty.

This song is proof that Def Leppard is still writing good songs and can be prevalent. The record company just isn't marketing them properly. This song should have been a new era hit for the group.

Silverwind summed it up pretty well. But, I don't know if, in the last verse, he is just lying to himself. This would be similar to the song, "Missing You," by John Waite, when he says, "I ain't missing you at all." But, you know he is.

I think the girl he lost was one of those special someones and he does want her to be happy. And he does know that time will come when he moves on, but he's got a long, long way to go before he reaches that level of acceptance.

General CommentThis is another great Def Lep ballad, but they didn't write this song. Some outside songwriters wrote it and the song was presented to the band while they were doing the album, and they loved it and wanted to record it even though they didnt write it. I dont have the cd with me, but the names of the songwriters are listed in the cd booklet by the songtitle.

An Silverwind - how is it possible you know this song so well but have never heard any other Def Lep song???

General CommentDoes this song have any hidden meaning with Steve Clark?

General CommentWell if you look at it from a Def Leppard stance its another Love Bites, but I don't see it as a love song just after hearing it once I agree with you Livvylu10 because I don't think they really have confronted the loss of Clark in a song that I am aware of. I mean Joe and Steve were close friends through the bands early history. Joe was supporting Steve for the most part, so if he had anything to do with the lyrics I think its about Steve. I just think this one was written in the prespective of a love song to hide the real meaning of it.
