I've been on the low and I'm tryna bounce back
Saw the sweet vision but the Devil's gon' attack
I've been tryna steer and I think I might crash
God please don't let my life hold me back
Sittin' on my bed reminiscing bout' the past
Wishin' that moments in my life won't last
Starin' at the clock and watchin' time go fast
Tryna bargain with myself thinking I could go back
Yeah, I feel like I'm wasting my time
When I try to find the better in me, yeah
But I can't even go to sleep
Feeling like it's 2 degrees
Focusing on self-esteem
I just wanna wake up!
Feelings got me down I gotta shape up
Tryna put my trust in God I gotta change up
Stress is kickin' in my head I can't take it
I don't wanna fake it
I just wanna make this better
Don't know what to do
I can't rely on anything else but you
Jesus help me to be humble tell me what to do
I just wanna find the love I know you're coming soon
I've been on the low and I'm tryna bounce back
Saw the sweet vision but the Devil's gon' attack
I've been tryna steer and I think I might crash
God please don't let my life hold me back
Sittin' on my bed reminiscing bout' the past
Wishin' that moments in my life won't last
Starin' at the clock and watchin' time go fast
Tryna bargain with myself thinking I could go back
Tell me how to love again
Cause I feel immune when I fall again
Look, I don't fail again
I've been feeling kinda distant
God hold my hand, Yeah
Living with distractions
Never taking action
I've been really slacking
OH YEAH
I just wanna to change
I don't want the fame
I can't be the same
God, take my name
I know my time will come
And I'm trying so hard to hold on
But I feel like its been so long
But I'm trying so hard to hold on
I know my time will come
And I'm trying so hard to hold on
But I feel like its been so long
But I'm trying so hard to stay on
I've been on the low and I'm tryna bounce back
Saw the sweet vision but the Devil's gon' attack
I've been tryna steer and I think I might crash
God please don't let my life hold me back
Sittin' on my bed reminiscing bout' the past
Wishin' that moments in my life won't last
Starin' at the clock and watchin' time go fast
Tryna bargain with myself thinking I could go back
I've been on the low and I'm tryna bounce back
Saw the sweet vision but the Devil's gon' attack
I've been tryna steer and I think I might crash
God please don't let my life hold me back
Sittin' on my bed reminiscing bout' the past
Wishin' that moments in my life won't last
Starin' at the clock and watchin' time go fast
Tryna bargain with myself thinking I could go back

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
