(Death is not the end)
(Death is not the end)

Life is boiling up and undulating
While oblivion covers up the world
Not to cool or comfort but to level
The few remains of hope we still feel

Whispers and hums are heard here and there
Witnesses of some event to come
Every nerve is on edge and vibrating
Throbbing before the break of the storm

Far away, loud and clear
I heard a voice going in my ear
Far away, loud and clear
I heard a voice going in my ear

Remain chained to the matter
Or let your body die
Remain chained to the matter
Or let your body die
DIE

Not with you yet already abandoned
In the dismal silence of a slough
Mankind is in the hands of a monster
An ogre gorging on this fallen despair

And the voices of those yearning for light
And their thoughts before becoming acts
Get diverted, betrayed and distorted
Get distracted, ignored and destroyed

Such is the state of this convulsing world
Such is the fate of this body of christ
Such are the days meant to wreck and deface
Such is the weight of the burden to bear

Far away, loud and clear
I heard a voice going in my ear
Far away, loud and clear
I heard a voice going in my ear

Remain chained to the matter
Or let your body die
Remain chained to the matter
Or let your body die

(Your body has already done a lot of changes
That's only the beginning
The beginning of the new flesh)
(2x)

All the twists and turns of our life
Pull us back to the place we came from
There's no faith in our hearts of stone
We have no torch to light up the trail
Is it still time to make for the open ?
Did we squander the talents we had ?
Can we still awaken and then revive them ?
Are they still expecting our call ?
Are they still expecting our call ?

    My Interpretation

I think this song represents a sort of medium between something Jean-Luc DeMeyer hits on in a number of his songs across a number of his projects: fighting the good fight vs utter despair.

The Front 242 song "Crapage" is almost entirely fight. The C-Tec song "Being Nothing" is entirely despair. I believe this song is almost entirely despair with just a glimpse of hope/fight at the end.

The voice he's hearing is suggesting the choice of being "chained to the matter" -- be stuck in this miserable, corrupted existence -- or "let your body die". In other words, this sucks, maybe you should just die. This voice comes from culture and society all the time. All around us are people trying to do better but who get "diverted, betrayed and distorted". It's hopeless. So maybe you should just give up. Death is not the end, after all.

We are lost in this world. We have no torch to light up the trail. We DO have the ability to strive and we could do well here and improve our own areas if we apply the effort and we do have the talents we need to do this but is there still time? Did we squander the talents we had? Are they still expecting our call?

Find the answer in Crapage! (Always ready for another go.)

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
