They aren't desperate for love and affection
No, they're desperate for you
And as you sit out there all sly and sure I've won
Does anyone think as true as you do
I'm quite sure we'll find one another
In a place better than this A time filled with us

And we'll send up our shooting stars and comets
And we'll make our little gestures
Because we'll make our little comments

This song is my anthem and it makes up my ideals
And who I am has benefited from all my cleverly planned meals
All my cleverly planned meals

I'm stripped and vital and I see rules that almost fit
So if I voice my opinion, would you stay and sit?
And as I stand here screaming in despair, oh, I said

Yes this is my life, and yes you should care

This song is my anthem
And it makes up my ideals
(Close your eyes)
And who I am has
(Free your mind)
Benefited from all my
(You're free to fly)
Cleverly planned meals
(Just say close your eyes)
All my cleverly planned meals
(Free your mind, you're free to fly)
Hardly happy at all and
I'm ready to take the fall
Because we pay for the stupid things
We've done where we come from
Can you sit through this?
(Can you sit through this?)
Or is it going to be too deep
(Too deep)

Will you ever use common sense?
It comes pretty cheap
So if I speak more clearly
If I make more sense

Will you just shut your mouth?
You won't come across so dense

Close your eyes and then you free your mind
You're free to fly

This song is my anthem and it makes up my ideals
And who I am has benefited from
All my cleverly planned meals
All my cleverly planned meals

    General Comment:well i think she is speaking about a relationship where people are very open to each other and live in their own world and would like to be somewhere else, away from society (In a place better than this A time filled with us). but also i sense some impatiance and irritation perphaps towards each other.

    General Comment:This is my favourite song ever.
    I'm not entirely sure what it's about, but it's amazing.

    General Comment:This song makes me think about how my sister is going away from home after having been by my side my whole life and how I'd like to tell her so many things, but she's always on the move or not willing to listen to what I have to say. We used to share everything and would help each other out, and now she's so caught up in the moment, ignoring everything that once reigned important and going on about gossip-y stuff.

    Yes, another story as my interpretation. I suppose this is why I feel I can relate to T&S.

    General Comment:I think this is just generally about life, a relationship, maybe. I never really thought of it when listening to it, I just thought about a strong girl, with strong ideals && opinions, that really doesn't take shit from someone.

    I love this song, like a lot.

    General Comment:My version of the song says this:

    "As you sit out there all sly and sure I wonder
    "does anyone think as strongly as you do?"

    There are a few other little differences, too. Is it possible there are three versions?

    Lyric Correction:is there a reason that "voice 1" and "voice 2" aren't separated between Tegan and Sara's names. If you'd like that, here it is. (there were a couple words not quite right too regardless if you want who sings what :)

    {TEGAN}
    They aren't desperate for love and affection. No, they're desperate for you. And, as you sit out there all sly and sure I've won, does anyone think strongly true as you do? I'm quite sure we'll find one another, in a place better than this - a time filled with us.

    And we send up our shooting stars and comets. And we make our little gestures, 'cause we make our little comments.

    This song is my anthem and it makes up my ideals; and who I am has benefited from all my cleverly planned meals ...all my cleverly planned meals.

    I'm stripped and vital and I see rules that almost fit. So if I voice my opinion would you stay and sit; and as I stand here screaming in despair oh i said:

    {TEGAN AND SARA}
    Yes this is my life, and yes you should care.
    {TEGAN}
    This song is my anthem, and it makes up my ideals.
    {SARA} (Close your eyes)

    {TEGAN} And who I am has
    {SARA} (Free your mind)
    {T} benefited from all my
    {S} (You're free to fly.)
    {T} cleverly planned meals
    {S} (Just say close your eyes.)
    {T} all my cleverly planned meals
    {S} (free your mind; you're free to fly}

    {TEGAN}
    Hardly happy at all and I'm ready to take the fall; 'cause we pay for the stupid things we've done where we come from.
    {TEGAN AND SARA}
    Can you sit through this; or is it gonna be too deep? Will you ever use common sense it comes pretty cheap. So, if I speak more clearly if I make more sense,

    {TEGAN}
    Will you JUST shut your mouth; you won't come across so dense.
    {Still TEGAN}
    Close your eyes and then you free your mind; I'm free to fly.
    {TEGAN and SARA}
    Close you eyes and then you free your mind; you're free to fly. (x2)
    She said close your eyes, yes, free your mind; you're free to fly. (x2)

    {IN SYNC, but SARA carries out)
    Close youuuuuuuuuuuurrr
    {TEGAN} Close your eyes, free your mind, free to fly.
    Close your eyes.

    {SARA}
    Close your eyes.
    I will free your mind; you're free to fly.

    {TEGAN}
    This song is my anthem and it makes up my ideals; and who I am has benefited from my cleverly planned meals.
    ....all my cleverly planned meals.
