"Isn't It Time" as written by and Kennedy/conrad....
Falling in love was the last thing I had on my mind
Holding you is a warmth that I thought I could never find
(Sitting here all alone)
Just trying to decide
(Whether to go all alone)
Or stay by your side
(Then I stop myself because)
I know I could cry
I just can't find the answers
To the questions that keep going through my mind
Hey babe
Isn't it time
(Isn't it time it took time to wait)
(Falling in love could be your mistake)
Isn't it time
(Isn't it time you took time to wait)
(Falling in love could be your mistake)
I've seen visions of someone like you in my life
A love that's strong reaching out
Holding me through the darkest night
(Sitting here all alone)
Just trying to decide
(Whether to go all alone)
Or stay by your side
(Then I stop myself because)
I don't want to cry
I just can't find the answers
To the questions that keep going through my mind
Hey babe
Isn't it time
(Isn't it time it took time to wait)
(Falling in love could be your mistake)
Isn't it time
(Isn't it time you took time to wait)
(Falling in love could be your mistake)
I feel a warmth in my heart
And my soul that I never knew
This love affair gives me strength
That I need just to get me through
(Sitting here all alone)
Just wondering why
(Then I stop myself because)
I know I could cry
(Then I think of you)
And everything seems alright
I've finally found the answers
To the questions that keep going through my mind
Hey babe
Isn't it time
(Isn't it time you don't have to wait)
(Don't have to wait)
I know it's time
(Losing this love could be your mistake)
Ooh yeah
(Isn't it time)
I know it's time
(Isn't it time you don't have to wait)
It must be time
(Don't have to wait)
(Losing this love could be your mistake)
(Isn't it time)
It must be time
(Isn't time you don't have to wait)
(Don't have to wait)
It oughta be time
(Losing this love could be your mistake)
(Isn't it time)
(Isn't it time you don't have to wait)
(Don't have to wait)
It must be time
(Losing this love could be your mistake)
(Isn't it time)
(Repeat and fade)

General CommentOne of the most magnificent love songs of the Seventies. As stated, it's gorgeously produced and incredibly moving. Underneath its shimmering horn and string arrangements, though, it's at its basis a clear, strong, and prettily-written composition with a can't-miss chord progression full of triumph.

To me, the meaning of this song's always been simple: a man afraid of commitment realizes his girlfriend's the one, and overcomes his fears to reach out, to tell her, and be her man.

    Lol, too:

Today, while waiting for the bus here in New York City, I was listening to my iPod on shuffle. An R&B song I liked was playing. A sudden strong feeling came over me, and a voice within me said, "The next song is how X (guy I like) feels about you." The very next song was this one, by The Babys.

It matches my suspicions and I hope he and I reconcile from our fight and come together soon. It's what he wants and what I want. I hope he's as strong as Jack Conrad was while writing this song, and defeats his fear, and crosses the line of anger between us to do the right thing. I do care about him.

    Great song.

General CommentI'm suprised no comment yet. Such a fabulous production, all brass and orchestral, with a beautifully haunting piano line.

General CommentI can't believe there aren't more comments on this song. With its beautiful, haunting orchestration, it blows the pants off modern music.

I forget where I heard this for the first time, but it grabbed me by the ears and made my arm hairs stand up on end. When the French horns (those are French horns in the middle, right?) kick in, I always get goosebumps.

I see the way this song is orchestrated just as telling as the lyrics themselves. In the more "intimate" parts of the song (during the verses), I see it as the narrator sitting in a lonely room and evaluating what he has. If you're like me and you think a lot, you know being alone with your thoughts can sometimes be very dangerous! I think the narrator realizes that and is on the brink of making a crucial decision to move forward in the relationship or break things off because he's having second thoughts.

When the tempo picks up in the chorus, I see that as the narrator's mind going crazy--almost racing with thoughts. I view John Waite's vocals--the lead--as his foreground thoughts, while the background singers could be that little voice in his head telling him he might be making a mistake. I think when the narrator raises his voice in the chorus and at the end of each verse, he's trying to cut through these voices in favor of his foremost thoughts. That's how the production in that regard speaks to me. I wish there was an interview out there that told the story of this magnificent song. I'd love to hear it!

Whether or not my interpretation is correct, this is still one of the most powerful songs I think I've ever heard. There are certainly others, but this has to be top three for me. I absolutely love this song, and it definitely makes me think!

General CommentThe background singers rock, especially in the fadeout. The stereo effect is a definite plus to a fantastic song.
