"Trigger" as written by Jesper Claes Haakan Stroemblad, Bjoern Ingvar Gelotte and Anders Par Friden....
Have we lost the spark or a guide?
What's the latest on the screen?
Can't be too late to turn around
I need all the help from you

I need to find
Something to blame for a long lost time

I am running from something that I don't know
I am searching for something, which way to go?
I am trying to separate what's real
I'm running in a wheel

Is it dark or is it bright?
What's the latest on the screen?
Please tell me my name
I haven't checked it today

I am running from something that I don't know
I am searching for something, which way to go?
I am trying to separate what's real
I'm running in a wheel

From green to red our days pass by
Waiting for a sign to tell us why
Are we dancing all alone?

Collect some stars to shine for you
And start today 'cause there's only a few
A sign of times my friend

My friend, avoid infinity
Are you for real?

Just scratch the surface
And you will find
Something to blame for a long lost time

From green to red our days pass by
Waiting for a sign to tell us why
Are we dancing all alone?

Collect some stars to shine for you
And start today 'cause there's only a few
A sign of times my friend

Just scratch the surface
And you will find
Something to blame for a long lost time

From green to red our days pass by
Waiting for a sign to tell us why
Are we dancing all alone?

Collect some stars to shine for you
And start today 'cause there's only a few
A sign of times my friend

General Commentalright.. first of all i want to comment upon all the stupidity thats going on on this site.. seriously.. this site is about INTERPRETATION! it is not about "[enter band name] RULEZ!!" or "THIS song ROCKS!!".. if you dont have something that adds to the overall descussion of what the song means, dont say anything. there are tons and tons of forums for all of you little fanboys to do this kind of thing. go do it there. and you can even say that the song rules, but explain why it rules, what it means, and what it makes you think and feel.

now then, i think that this section:
"Have we lost the spark or a guide?
What’s the latest on the screen?
Can’t be too late to turn around.
I need all the help from you.

I need to find something to blame for a long lost time

    I’m running from something, I don’t know.
I’m searching for something, which way to go?
I’m trying to separate what’s real.
    I’m running in a wheel.

Is it dark or is it bright?
What’s the latest on the screen?
Can you please tell me my name?
    I haven’t checked it today.

    I’m running from something, I don’t know.
I’m searching for something, which way to go?
I’m trying to separate what’s real.
    I’m running in a wheel."

is about our lostness as people in our society. its about the fact that those who actually try to search for truth are having a hard time finding it, because most people find their meaning and purpose in the glow of thier television screens. there is soo much information out there, with tv, books, and the internet that is easy to get lost in, especially when things are so confusing. one group says this, the other says that, and all of it contradicts the other. some say no truth, some say absolute truth, some say they have no idea.

"From green to red our days pass by
waiting for a sign to tell us why.
    Are we dancing all alone?
Collect some stars to shine for you,
and start today cause there are only a few.
The sign of times my friend.

    Avoid infinity?
    Are you for real?

    Just scratch the surface,
    and you will find,
something to blame for a long lost time.

    Are we dancing all alone?
Collect some stars to shine for you,
and start today cause there are only a few.
The sign of times my friend."

This section is a slight shift. its observing that we live life on 2 speeds, GO and Stop. you only stop when your unconscious, and then you get up and GO the next day, chasing after whatever your life is all about (that thing which the tv, or the internet probably told you was important). it goes on to say the we are all waiting for some sort of cosmic, grand sign to tell us why we live the way we do, or if we should be different, or tell us pretty much anything really. it is the grandest version of WHY. it is the basic striving for meaning in the human heart.
Then he suggests to grab opertunities and joys wherever you can, because they are few and far between, because of the time of existance, and the society, in which we live. i also love the line where he says "avoid infinity? are you for real?". this is to those who go on just NOT thinking about the great life questions, those who worship thier tv screens, and go on living in obsinate and willful ignorance. that is no way to live.

i love these lyrics because the demand that there has to be some sort of meaning for life, and that so many are missing it. there has to be a purpse greater than our own entertainment, our own fixation upon our money, our posessions, and our good times. our lives cannot possibly be the empty and monotonous droning on towards death and death alone, rendering all that was accomplished without value or reason. if that were the case it would not matter what we did on this earth, for it would end up the same for everyone... nothingness.

    and that... is truely unacceptable..

    Later, hope it helped.

General CommentWell I don't think that the song's about a relationship. The music could tell it's about something really different. It's just about human life.

The song starts with defining general problems: we don't have a guide but our own senses and we seem to be lost in life. We need to turn around. "Have we lost the spark or a guide? What's the latest on the screen? Can't be too late to turn around"

And in the second verse: "Please tell me my name, I haven't checked it today" - a way to refer to identity crisises.
Our days pass bye without meaning, but we're still human souls and thus want reason, answers to our questions. Questions like these:

"Why I'm running from something I don't know?
Why I'm searching for something which way to go?
Why I'm trying to separate what's real?
    I'm running in a wheel."
(Our efforts seem to be worthless.)

    "Are we dancing all alone?"

...and all the other questions go to somebody out there who might hear us and give us a sign. ("Waiting for a sign to tell us why") These unanswered questions are asked by a man from god or life.

At the end of the chorus, the lyrics say what the true sign shows us to do: collecting "stars" (small joys) from our lives. It's not a true answer to the questions but that's what time teaches us at least.

Writing down what these lyrics really imply makes less sense but I think it is really something about that. Especially when you imagine how Anders sing it. .)

General Commentok, i'll take this song line by line and analyse it:

Have we lost the spark or a guide?

this first line is self explanatory: spark and guide mean the same thing- something on which you rely on when taking decisions. the absence of such thing points out how totally random life is.

What’s the latest on the screen?
while not finding a spark or a guide, the individual resorts to the tv (or computer- it depends) to find out what all those "specialists" are pointing out, and how would it be best to act, which not only doesn't explain anything, but also confuses the person even more.

Can’t be too late to turn around.
No matter what the situation, it is always never to late to turn around and take another road, and the another and so on...(with many compromises made, i might add)

I need all the help from you.
I think "you" in this case is more of a general addressing for help. It could mean society, it could mean friends, family etc.

I need to find something to blame for a long lost time (this line has been passed over in all comments above)
I think it tries to say that everyone needs to find a scapegoat on whom to blames his current situation

    I’m running from something, I don’t know.

Again, this line expresses confusion- the individual runs from something he can't explain. this could be a reference to manipulation in society- you are made to bellieve things you don't fully understand (like support the war on terrorism for example, when you don't even know its cause- just an example, everyone is more or less subject to some manipulation)

I’m searching for something, which way to go?
Again, the person searches for something, feels the need of something that could make him feel better , but doesn't know what that something is.

I’m trying to separate what’s real.
This continues the struggle to escape confusion or manipulation. Trying to separate the good from the bad, the lies from the truth, in order to pick the right road in life...

    I’m running in a wheel.
....but this leads nowhere and brings the individual back where he started.

Is it dark or is it bright?
A person can be so confused, he cannot tell if his situation is good or bad...
What’s the latest on the screen?
...and, again, tries to search the answer on tv.

Can you please tell me my name?
    I haven’t checked it today.

these 2 lines suggest a personality crisis, the person not being able to find an identity in this society.

From green to red our days pass by
waiting for a sign to tell us why.
    Are we dancing all alone?

Green and red mean life and death (like in video games- when the cursor is red, you are near death). So, everyone spends their entire life searching for a sign- an answer to the questions of existence- to tell them why (this part i can't really interpret right) they feel so alone, even if there are so many people with whom they share their lives with ? or perhaps "dancing all alone" means no one cares for each other and it's every man for himself.

Collect some stars to shine for you,
and start today cause there are only a few.
The sign of times my friend.

so, not being able to find the big sign, the individual retreats in small joys- the stars- that are very rare, and must beenjoyes at full.

    Avoid infinity?
    Are you for real?

i think it talks about avoiding all these questions and living your life like everything is perfect, when you are really drawning in shit (are you for real?)

    Just scratch the surface,
    and you will find,
something to blame for a long lost time.

"scratch the surface" could reffer to scratching the crystal globe- as a reference to superstition. everyone finds reasons and blames something for his situation, but not on a logical basis, and merely on guessing or superstition.

anyway, i think the basic idea of this song is inner struggle and confusion in today's shitty society, when it is very hard for the individual to find his own purpose in life.

General Commentcouple of people pretty naked this song... except of verses:

"I need to find something to blame for a long lost time"

i think it's about feeling of wasting your life... spent on searching for god, meaning, aim, but also on school, work

    "Just scratch the surface,
    and you will find,
something to blame for a long lost time."

it's one of this rare songs that not only describe what's your problem... but also gives answers.
like the rest of "answering" part it says that you should focus on little joys, avoid things like meaning of life and try to be happy with easy and not full or deep (from surface :D) answers.

    sorry for grammar xD
