"Two Babies in the Dark" as written by and Brett Gurewitz....
There'a light on in the hallway
So I can't understand
Why you hide underneath the covers
There's a baby in your womb

So don't be scared tonight
Because Raggedy ann is in the closet picking posies
Two babies in the dark
Like diamonds in the sand

While pap's far away making children's stories
The little one's inside
So afraid to be alone
She's trying to brave until the daddy comes home

So if you chance to see her
Please tell her it's alright
'Cause everyone fights the tendency to snap
Sometimes it's not a matter

Of being brave and strong
'Cause noises in the house are terrifying
I'll put you to sleep at night
Like a foreign movie

I'll sing you lullabies
And I'll teach you about everything
And I'll only ask you one thing
Please save me

General CommentThis song, I think, is all about 'babies having babies'. Its about a teenage girl lying in bed, pregnate and scared. The father is obviously gone, and she's all alone and scared.

General CommentI don't see it as necessarily from the soldier's point of view, but rather, from the mother's perspective. Given the political overtones on Generator, I don't think that's she's been abandoned as the first post suggested, but she's young (hence, one of the 'babies') and very scared and her husband's/baby's daddy's off fighting in the gulf war. The way I see it, she's talking to herself for reassurance throughout the song, trying to fight off the loneliness and probably anxiety of kid's dad's safety. I don't know, I could be wrong. Awesome song; awesome album.

General CommentI love this song. The way I see it is from the viewpoint of a soldier. He's basically begging his pregnant wife and (more so) his daughter to get him away from the hellish life of war and back home with his family.

"Papa's far away making up children's stories": He's off fighting a war that future generations will read about in history books.

"She's trying to be brave until the daddy comes home": Little girl scared because her father has been away for a long time.

The last part is a hopeless plea to his daughter, saying if she could only get him out of there, he would read her to sleep, sing her lullabyes, teach her as much as he possibly can.
