Banapple gas, oh Banapple gas
Everybody's sniffing it Banapple gas
O-o alas!
All the world is stuck on it Banapple gas.

Does it do you good, make you better
Set you healthy when you're bed-tied?
Well I don't know if it makes you well
But it must be healthy
'Cause it don't smell.

Banapple gas, oh Banapple gas
Everybody's living on Banapple gas
O-o alas!
All the world is grooving on Banapple gas.

Do you know what goes inside to make it
What kind of strange spice makes it right?
Well I don't know what kind of spice
But it must be healthy 'cause it's sterilized.

Banapple gas, Banapple gas
Give me more Banapple gas
Oh oh oh oh oh

Does it help you smile more to wake up
Make you happy just to be alive?
Well I don't know if it makes you happy
But it must be healthy
'Cause it's certified.

Banapple gas, oh Banapple gas
All the world is breathing Banapple gas
Oh oh alas!
No one knows what's inside it Banapple gas
Oh Banapple gas.

General Comment:This song sounds like it is about doing drugs. In the 60s and 70s, everyone was doing drugs without really knowing what was in them. I'm not sure if that's what it is about, but that is what it sounds like to me.

General Comment:I'm pretty sure he's talking about oxygen. If you watch Majikat, he says that he only uses oxygen as a drug. Also, I am fairly sure you can "flavor" the oxygen, so he's probably talking about the scent of bananas and apples mixed together.

General Comment:By only uses oxygen as a drug, i meant that the only drug he uses is oxygen. I worded that one wrong.

General Comment:This song is from a concept album based on a fictional planet called Polygor in a far-off galaxy, and the "Polygons" who inhabited its palace.

My Interpretation:These lyrics have been running through my mind some and after ages of not getting this, it suddenly sprung to me while I was singing it. Forgive me if you disagree, but from "Banapple Gas" I get a picture of a guy(Cat Stevens) in the 70's who's been introduced to butt sex (Banana(penis)/Apple(apple bottom)) and now he's amusing himself in song about the morality of the act and with the words: sterilized(after bowl motion), certified(it's with a girl), gas(clearly a fart occurring during anal). . . Look I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but c'mon how can't anyone see this imagery? Maybe, I have wandered to some of the same places Cat Steven's wandered to, peace and forgive me for this interpretation, though I feel it's valid.

My Interpretation:Sounds to me like he's making a point in general about the questionable things we put into our body -- whether its illegal drugs, sugary cereals, medication, cigarettes.. etc. Everybody's doing it, so me toooooo
