"This Is Where I Came In" as written by and Barry Alan/gibb Gibb....
I've seen the story
I've read it over once or twice
I said that you say
A little bit of bad advice
I've been in trouble
Happened to me all of my life
I've lied and you lie
And who would get the sharpest knife

You know I couldn't be somebody like that
I'm not the kind of man to throw his hat
Into the ring and
Go down without following through
The day turns into night
Go down following through
The day turns into night

Oh, oh, oh,
This is just where I came in

Hope rides on
But I'll go anywhere
Yes, I'll go anywhere with you
Time has gone
But I'll go anywhere
Yes, I'll go anywhere with you

This is the danger zone
This is where I came in
They know not what they do
Forgive them all their sins
They know they cannot take away
What you have given me

Oh, oh, oh,
This is just where I came in

Fade into color
Color into black and white
Under the bedclothes
Everything will be alright
I know that you know
Nothing ever stays the same
Said so, I said so
The love will never speak its name

Never gonna find somebody like you
Beauty with a brain and a body too
I could never make a move on a woman that leads me on
She's got a little bit of something for everyone
It's a little too late and the wolf is on the run

Hope rides on
But I'll go anywhere
Yes, I'll go anywhere with you
Time has gone
But I'll go anywhere
Yes, I'll go anywhere with you

I always told myself
I would regret this day
That I would fall apart
And watch you walk away
That you would cry out loud
And I would stand aside

Oh, oh, oh,
This is just where I came in

I can't fly
But I'll go anywhere
Yes, I'll go anywhere with you

This is the danger zone
This is where I came in
They know not what they do
Forgive them of their sins
They know they cannot take away
What you have given me

Oh, oh, oh,
This is just where I came in
Oh, oh, oh

General CommentI think it's about a man who is unwilling to give up on love. He found a woman who is beautiful and smart and he'll follow her to the ends of the earth.. however, things aren't perfect and they occasionally lie and hurt each other, probably verbally. He does not want to put forth the effort if she's just going to lead him on though and he envisions a day when she'll want to be free.. "wolf is on the run" and he'll "step aside" to give her the freedom she demands. My favorite part is "they cannot take away what you have given me". I think it's a testament to how fulfilling the relationship is, perfect or not, permanent or not. There is a small religious reference "they know not what they do, forgive them of their sins".. that part I haven't quite figured out. If you just heard that part and the chorus, you'd think it was a contemporary Christian song. But obviously he's talking about a woman he is madly in love with.

General CommentAnd "this is just where I came in" might be talking about how people come in and out of our lives. And it is what it is.. people made it through life before us and they can make it after we leave. "This is the danger zone" might mean it's a critical moment when they have to make a decision about where their relationship is really headed.. Again though, deep down he wants nothing more than to be with her. She's ambitious and probably younger than he is..so he's saying that he'll follow her. I think it's a progressive beautiful song that just makes me want to jump up and dance. Bittersweet and makes you think. Love the Bee Gees!

General CommentSorry not "step aside".. it's "stand aside". Anyway, after reading the beginning again.. maybe he's saying that he's heard of too many dysfunctional relationships or experienced bad luck in the past, but right now he's got a good thing going that he knows will never come again since he's unwilling to pursue another woman like her. He might be making the conscious decision to settle down or run with her, he's just unsure what she wants. Also, maybe when she leaves and realizes that she misses him.. she'll cry aloud and he'll already have moved on. There's so many different ways to interpret this song.
